Four years ago,at age 23 my periods stopped for no apparent reason and they have not returned since. I had loads of tests, but no answers. I consider myself to be extremly fit and healthy and I have no explanation for this, did this happen to anyone else? Can anyone shed some light on this IP: Logged |

It is quite common to have amenorrhea if you exercise quite heavily so when you say you are extremely fit I am wondering to what degree you exercise. If it's not excessive (but I have seen it caused by just doing one aerobic class a day)then try the herb Agnus Castus. It's very good at normalising hormones. Have your body fat level checked. The body has a sort of circuit breaker when it comes to body fat and if it feels it is too low and therefore unable to support a pregnancy, it stops you ovulating.

bunnies We were posting about the same time.Rubina Are you a vegetarian? If you avoid heme sources of iron that can also be a factor. Also donating blood.

Thank you for your reply'sI exercise regularly but not excessivly, e.g.weights & aerobics on alternitive days, long rest periods & outdoor cycling, it is quiet varied but not too extreme. Amenorreha has been suggested before by a doctor but I'm doubtful as my BMI is & has always been around 20%, weight is & has been around 60kgs, all normal for my height of 5'5'' I have just recently become a full vegetarian, 3 months or so ago. Before this I only ate white meat and sea food for about two years, so I think this its also unrelated I have donated blood in the past but only on three occasions, I don't take systemic birth control or any types of medication. But I'll try Agnus Castus Anymore ideas are welcome Thanks again x IP: Logged |

I would definitely see a doctor...if I were in your position. At age 23-27, you are at a peak reproductive age and to have your periods stop completely...see if your doctor can find a cause. Good luck! IP: Logged |

If your periods were normal up until 23 trust me there is a trigger for this so think back. Did you undergo a period of stress at this time? Even though you say your BMI is mormal for your height is it an engineered one? In other words do you struggle to maintain it? Every body has an ideal base weight. It might be more than we would like but it's one the body feels comfortable with. So if we, by means of diet or exercise force the body to stay even a couple of pounds under what it would naturally like to be, it will react in this way. I am sure you have been tested for polycystic ovaries or a thyroid problem. If not ask them to test. Do you have any other symptoms at all, no matter how insignificant they may appear? Give the Agnus Castus a couple of months. Take an iron supplement as suggested. You can try homeopathic Sepia (if you are dark) or Pulsatilla(if you are fair) And once totally off the top of my head,I recommended Alfalfa to a friend of mine who had insufficient breast milk ( I read somewhere they gave it to cows to increase milk yield). She said she ended up like a prize Jersey cow after two days!! Give it a whirl. The least it can do is make you look fabulous!IP: Logged |

Thank you allBunnies, you seem to know alot about this kind of stuff. Yes I have had tests for thyroyd function and polycystic ovaries and for the presence of various other hormones that would cause this. One hormone in particular actually tricks the body into thinking its is pregnant and makes you produce breastmilk and have other symptoms of pregnancy. But I seem to be clear of everything. I don't try too hard to maintain my weight, I consider it to be normal, not under or over I have also taken up yoga in an attempt to get to deeper into my phsyche.I don't run in marathons I am not trying to concieve at the moment but I'd like to have the option and I miss them. I was reading books channeled by Barbra Hand Clow and they highlighted the importance of a womans blood because of the DNA that is released, they said it holds the key for the eveloution of our planet. I read in them that as the earth changes continue our menustral cycle will change from monthly to yearly as the moon spin will slow down and take a year to complete its revelotion around earth. So I am thinking maybe this has something todo with me? Has this happened to anyone else? I'm giong to try what you suggested and hope for the best Thank you x

Rubina. I think the hormone you are referring to is cortisol which is often released during stress. If you have had your adrenal glands tested then they would have looked at this. It tends to make you gather weight around the kidneys and gives you a chubby face as well as producing breast milk over a long term. However as I was telling you about my alfalfa friend I got an "off the top of my head" intuitive flash for you. Agnus Castus is the standard supplement for hormonal imbalance but I would like you to try Wild Yam first. I think this may be the one for you and if it is I think it will work PDQ. So good luck!IP: Logged |

Rubina- I had a friend of mine in my ballet class explain a similar story with me about herself. Her story was damn near close to yours, i suggested that she try ginger root in warm water twice a day, once in the morning & once at night a few hours b4 bed. I told her to just slice a very thin slice of the actual root & drop it in hot water. After it cools to a warm temp, drink it & then nibble on the sliver of root. She tried this for a few weeks everyday & after about 2 weeks her periods came back, normal as ever. Just a thought, i can relate where you're coming from as mine have been out-of-whack since moving from the west coast to the east coast. They have been VERY heavy, leaving me extremely weak & having to take that 1st special day off work. They have never been that way b4. Hope that helps Good luck! IP: Logged |
