Hi all. I am currently studying for a BA(Hons) degree in Philosophy and Psychological Studies with the Open University (mouthful!!!). It's going pretty well so far - the first year of the course is based on the general social sciences and I'm finding parts interesting - and a few boring parts too!!! I did really well on the first essay - I got 85% which is a pass 1!!! But with the 2nd essay I let myself down with a pass 2 at 71%. I was a bit disappointed, as I knew I could have done better but me being me, I'd tried to wing it!!!!! Basically, I guess I'm asking if any of you lovely folks know of any ways to stop my bloody procrastination!!! I'm working on my 3rd essay now (the economics paper - ugh!!!) and I really want to do well - much better than last time. I need advice (or remedies) to help me settle down into a decent study mode, or such like! If anyone's got any ideas - I'd really appreciate the help!!!!! Thanks all! IP: Logged |

I was a horrible student in highschool, but made it through Nursing School (in my mid 30's) using Ginko, healthy diet and healthy emotional living (as much as possible) ie: visualizations, etc. AND crystals...ALWAYS had a crystal of some sort in my pocket....usually amnethyst or clear for tests and studying. PS: graduated 3rd in my class in Nursing School, and had a hell of a home life while attenting. I owe it mostly to my spiritual life and use of herbs, crystals, visualizations and clean, healthy living! The BEST of luck to you!!! Terri IP: Logged |

Its hard for me to actually sit down and study for longer than 20 mins, especially when you spend a large part of your day in the classroom, so I know what you mean!! My method is a little weird, don't know if it will be helpful to you.. But anyways while I am cooking, cleaning, stopped at a light while driving(I commute),I just read one definition or concept and let it roll over in my mind, kind of sink in you know? Then once I can recite it back word for word and then put it in my own words, I move on to the next concept. Then I mix it up and quiz myself on different concepts/def in different order so I make sure I know my stuff. So I get my studying AND other things that need to be done done and keep my mind occupied while doing somewhat mindless thing. I like Hippichick's ideas too!IP: Logged |

As a recent graduate I do know what you are going through. You can't remember everything but I promise you will remember what you need to know when you need to know it. You think you need it all right now, but you don't. It will be there when you need it, just do what you're doing right now. Do the best you can. God will take care of the rest. You'll be in class someday, or at home. and WAALAAHH! You'll remember! It's in you heart and you love what you are doing. So, take a deep breath and relax! It's going to be ok!IP: Logged |

For concentration, you could try crystals, aromatherapy, maybe even Bach Flowers.I would think that grounding/base chakra crystals would help you to focus, such as garnet. And you could use good quality essential oils in an oil burner (not cheap fragrant oils, as these are synthetic and don't have the same effect). Lemon oil is VERY good for focus! Be careful in your choices of oils though as many are very relaxing and won't help you to focus at all. Lemon, like I suggested, is good for productivity and focus, and Lime is good for mental processes, so they make a good combination. Hornbeam is a Bach Flower remedy that's supposed to help you with procrastination. Here's a full list of Bach Flowers: http://www.bachcentre.com/centre/remedies.htm Also, I think it helps to work out a study schedule and commit it to paper! Stick it on the wall beside your desk and think of it as a contract that you have to fulfil. Then for each scheduled study period that you fulfil, reward yourself - something small, like going out for coffee, or listening to your favourite song or whatever appeals to you. Hope some of this helps! IP: Logged |
