my daughter has a highish fever so I'd like some wise advice, I'm going to look some things up, but I thought someone might have some sane advice so I don't have to call and wake up nearby friends or relatives, it's after 11pm here thanks http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/002099.html IP: Logged |

Body temperature bath in momma's arms is always comforting and helpful too...A cool cloth across her neck and forhead area as well as warm fluids to drink (yes, warm fluids) this brings temps down quickly and safely while also protecting against dehydration that is common during times such as this. Using things such as pedialite would also be supplying desperately needed electrolites, etc. the body loses during fevers. Most fevers will break naturally on there own and you should not panic. Instead offer your daughter your attention with calmness and love in your heart, everything really should be just fine. If she is not holding down tylenol or the like. They do sell an alternative that actually works but is not as pleasant to use. In case of an emergency such as the case of this idea you should have this product on hand as well. They are tylenol "suppositories" and are sold at most pharmacies nationwide. Heck even Safeway grocery store carries them here in the baby product section. *If her fever is 101 and over do take her directly to the emergency room. They will likely hook her up to an IV to supply her things her body needs as well as give her an "alcohol" sort of bath that immediately cools ones body temperature.
Honey, I do hope that all is well... I'm sending you lots of love. Hang in there, K? Everything is going to be OK. Sendin' love your way, "your friend in spirit"

Thank you Pixiedust I hadn't even thought of the cool cloth until lotus mentioned it on the other thread. It really helps to have some "cool heads" (haha) in a situation like this. I feel better because she is not as hot and thanks to everyone's advice and support, I could relax enough to read some web-sites. I think we're ok now. Thanks again!!! IP: Logged |

MYfriendinspirit thank you, it is nice to hear from you. Everything is calmer now. See above link to see the advice I got earlier. The cool cloth idea is just what my frazzled mind needed. She seems quite happy just to be awake and near Mom now. (She is laying on a mattress a few feet from me.) I worried about the tea being hot and it being a diuretic and I wasn't sure I had the proper kind to do any good anyway... the almanac said peppermint and the Celestial Seasonings Tension Tamer has peppermind and valerian so she could sleep. But I worried about her sleeping too deeply with such a high fever and a lot of my other flavors are green tea or aren't decaf so I just haven't done the tea thing yet. I'm going to update the other thread with any news. Right now she is just biding her time until the microwave beeps so I can take her temp and then she gets that ice pop. Oh, beeeep. thanks for the reply!! IP: Logged |

I totally agree with YFIS about the "tylenol suppositories" providing a)she's little, and b) has a high fever that you have to break fast, otherwise Motrin (or whatever you use) and let it take it's course. In all the years I've been a mother I have only had to resort to the suppositories once and it worked fast. Take Care IP: Logged |

She seems to be completely back to normal. She woke up with a fever yesterday and by the time we made it to the doctor's office it was gone. It must have been a 24 hour something. We have been sleeping a lot so she is feeling much better. I'm just tired and have a lot to do. Doctor told me about the B.R.A.T. diet for flu type throwing up sicknesses. Bananas Rice Applesauce Toast. I know I've heard it before but I didn't remember it. Hopefully I will now. You all are a blessing. IP: Logged |

Awwwwww... I am glad your sweet lady is better now.My son had a super high temperature this weekend too! But he's 13, it's odd that although I was concerned and catered to him and helped him, it was a calmer scenario than it usually is with my younger ones. Maybe because I know he will tell me straight up how he's feeling..no games or emotional drama or scary symptoms... it's less worrying somehow. I am just hoping it surpasses the younger ones and gets out of our house.... no more fevers please. Yes I am glad their immune systems are thriving.. but we don't have to prove it now!!! IP: Logged |
