Home remedies include:

NO caffiene, no spicy foods, low fiber foods, NO alchohol. NO chocolate. NO smoking!!! Absolutely NO NSAID's (Advil, Motrin, Aleve)

A histamine blocker such as Pepcid coupled with something to coat the stomache like Pepto Bismol.

Do not eat late, sit up for atleast 30 minutes after eating.

If it gets worse your friend must see a doc. Especially for vomitting up blood or dark, tarry stools.

Ulcers can perforate and then the stomach contents including the awfully strong hydrocholric acid will spill into the abdominal cavity causing further problems such as infection and needing emergency surgery.

Thanks Hippichick, I really appreciate your response. He told me they gave him muscle relaxers, but didn't really go into what else they told him to avoid, or to eat to sooth the pain.

Aren't you the resident RN here on Lindaland?

Ha!

Yes, I am an RN, (ICU.)

You know, muscle relaxers could have some NSAID's in them, and could be the culprit.

I have experienced ulcers myself and have, so far, not had to have seen a GI doc...when I feel one coming on, I practice what I preach.

Stress is a BIG factor with ulers, too, but with life in modern day, it is almost impossible to avoid stress, I suppose, in the long run, it is how we handle our stressors that counts.

blessings

Terri
