Well, I've basically just started losing my "pregnancy weight" (quotes because my daughter is FIVE) but I think what has done it for me is first, no more milk and only soy milk. Then I did a few "one day" green tea and juice fasts that turned into second day grape and apple fasts which cleaned out my digestive tract (this automatically drops about ten pounds off your belly area so you don't still look "pregnant") and after the fasts your appetite gets back on track for a while so you can stick to the whole grains and veggies and fruits you stocked up on when you had extra will-power at the start.

When you get the toxic junk out of you (detox tea and green tea during fast days and green tea as much as possible, especially at night when you usually would snack, from now on)... and I cheat and start with coffee on fast days so it is easier to go the day with no food) you start to have more energy so you can bring yourself to at least do a few sit ups and push ups each day in addition to your usual housework and errand type stuff. The fasts really give you more will power and a sense of control over your eating.

And I am assuming you already "know" what is healthy and what you "should" be eating and what portions you "should" be eating but knowing isn't doing. So, when you have extra will power after the fasts you have to make all of those good choices and find more and more that you love that you can incorporate. One healthy snack that is still high in calories and fat that I started this last 6 months is buying guacamole and putting in on romaine lettuce mix. Instead of on chips for example. It's just an interesting healthy food and lettuce is filling.

I made some switches to vegan choices (that you can read about in threads here in LL Health and Healing) so I don't really eat meat other than chicken most of the time. I'm not vegan though. I still eat a cheeseburger or a taco when out somewhere every once in a while, but it is like once a month. The rest of the time I get my protein from the soy milk, soy products and chicken. Tuna once a month maybe.
I think the biggest thing that helped me after ingraining all of those habits is jacking up my coffee intake. I took no caffeine during and after pregnancy due to breastfeeding and then just never started again. I've started again here and there this year and the last month I've been having coffee almost every morning. I also have a tiny 3/4 cup actual proper portion of bran cereal or whole grain at breakfast with some soy milk in it. In the coffee I take soy milk and sugar.

I also stopped diet pop completely about 6 months ago, and just buy cases of bottled water to grab and drink. At the start I still craved the soda and had some but after a couple months just stopped buying it and now just have a regular Pepsi or Dr. Pepper or whatever (not diet) once a month or something if I crave it while out. My brother is a math/science person and he says diet/artificial sweeteners make you hungrier and although I thought he was nuts a first I am inclined to agree with him now... and artificial sweeteners aren't usually the best health wise anyway. I would still use them if I thought they would help me lose weight though and forget the health issues! :^) But if they are making me hungry, then what's the point?

Let me know if you have any good ideas to pass on too. Oh, one more idea. I buy a couple pairs of great jeans that are a size lower. Then there is nothing in my mind saying that I'll have to buy all new clothes and what if I can't afford it and I "just bought" these huge jeans that fit me now and I like the style etc... I have the next size down in a great style. (And I have to pick these up at thrift and garage sales on my budget but you might be able to do it differently).

K, that's enough of my blah blah :^D

I'll go do my sit-ups and push-ups. Even if I only do 10 of each, I still "did" them and that is all that counts in starting a healthy habit. <3

Hi Girlfriends!
Please add tips and what works for you!
Also bump thread on the apple/grape detox fasts etc, and other threads that you remember and like that have useful weight loss information.

See other threads I bumped today for more information.

I will add the acai tip here... health food stores sell acai berry juice in frozen packets that can be put into a blender with other frozen berries/fruits and other juices (I use the new V-8 blends of 100% fruit and vegetable juice, but others may prefer more natural juices if you can afford it). It makes a nice transition food on day three after fasts and apple/grape detoxes.

Love to my LindaLand Sorority Sisters

I will add to this when I have more time and when things come to me.

One thing that is very beneficial is Organic, Extra Virgin Coconut Oil (easiest if you get it in pill form)

a few of the benefits:

*stimulates weight loss
*aids in reducing yeast overgrowth
*promotes cholesterol health

One of the best pieces of advice I have been given recently is:
****Eat only when you are hungry and drink only when you are thirsty.****

And don't over-eat. Eat slow, chew well.

I like it, real simple. Get to know what real hunger is and just that empty craving feeling that makes you want to eat for whatever other reasons. Pay attention to your body, it knows best. I'm telling you, if you follow this simple peice of advice, you will lose a lot of weight. Your body knows how to regulate itself. We just have to learn how to listen and stop with bad habits.

And I'm proud of you for taking control of your health and making positive changes. I need to work on some things too. Thanks for the inspiration.
