I just bought a new house. I am planning to make my office and meditation room together. It is at the side of entrance and have a big sun face window. I am the only one who will use office space which will have my computer desk and chair.

Can anyone please suggest how can I combine both meditation room and office room. I need to allocate some place for my guru altars and other holy pictures/holy books within that room. The room is totally empty with no shelves.

I like to sit on floor with some soft pillow for meditation.

Thank you!

HI sVirgo,
It has been so long since i got to post on this forum!!
So, howz u doing??

Usually, meditations are done facing north or East, preferably, NOrth. I think u have an East facing window. Entrance of the room could be the meditation area, since no body else enters that room, it will be free from disturbacne and also u have a big window which will provide u with sufficient ventilation. You can place ur GURU's altar below the window, and face east, if u prefer to do so, or find a plce facing north, so that u can place it there and face the altar and meditate.

The end of the room can probably be your office. I am not able to get a clear picture of the archi of ur room, so what ever i have mentioned is upto my understanding.
do let me know if it works or even otherwise

Love,
IC.

Thank you indycrab!

I just moved my stuff from PA to here last week. I noticed that my house has south east facing front door.
So I am trying to arrange North or east wall for Altar as you suggested.

I can see a library/reading room combined with a meditation room, but an office? Will you have a large desk? laptop computer? file cabinets? I hope the space is big enough so you can section it off with some sort of folding divider. I would prefer an office/computer in the kitchen so I could work at paying bills etc at a small table (something from IKea)while cooking etc. I saw some design magazine that used a corner of the kitchen with a 3'x2" tall desk and stool then files could be stored in another room. Just a thought .

Though, I have given the last cabinet of my kitchen area as meditation area and space for my altars and also I am keeping a side of an office area too for meditation.
When I want to work in living area, I use my laptop.
