My friend has a notion to put a bunch of quartz crystals in his floatation tank...

Little spherical ones, that wont scratch or puncture the lining of the tank.

He wants to know if these polished crystals are less potent,
or tainted, by having been altered from their natural state.

Also, he wonders if the Epsom Salt in the tank will harm the crystals,
and/or will it act as a conductor/magnifier of their energies.

Please only respond if you have some knowledge of crystals.

I'm not interested in opinions.

Thanks.

I have used both, and in my experience, natural cut, un-polished crystals just have a better "feel" to me. They feel more natural, untainted, more attuned with the earth.....

As I sit and write, I have a natural cut amethyst on my keyborad, I keep them around always. I went to nursing school with amethyst in my pockets and clear quartz around my neck and graduated top in my class.

As far as salt goes, I use sea salt for clearing them so maybe Epsom salt would keep them nice and clear? And I would definately research salt as a conductor of energies to crystals.

All in all, I would say, that crystals draw in energy, but, as I said, the polished ones just do not feel as powerful as the natural ones to me ( seems a "barrier" has been created in the process.) I think your friend can use the crystals he chooses and as long as he infuses them with the appropriate energy there is no reason they could not work just as well for him, as long as he clears them throughly before he uses them.

What an interesting idea, by the way!

Once a crystal has been shaped and/or polished it's' original energies have been altered forever. Best to use them in their natural state, but never before they have been cleared. I prefer to place them in the rain to clear them, but since it only rains here two days out of the year I have learned that by following the guidelines to making flower essences works great. As far as the salt goes, I have only ever used sea salt.

A friend of mine believes in "color co-ordinating" them to their useful purpose, for example, blue topaz = water; smoky quartz (kinda brownish) = in plant soil, and she has a rainbow of quartz throughout her home. Each symbolizes all the different thoughts, feelings and emotions we experience throughout life.

Good luck and let us know how it works?

Thank you, you two!

That was very helpful.

I didn't realise that cut, polished or tumbled stones were altered in their energy - although I guess it makes sense now that I think about it...

I have never heard of using epsom salts with crystals...

What's your friend's intended purpose of putting them in this tank? If he's actually getting into the tank, be aware that crystals like clear quartz are strong in their energy and if he's using a lot of them he could get overstimulated. Clear quartz in particular has a very fast energy.

I should also add that spherical shaped crystals send energy out in all directions.

Interesting, thank you.

I'll let him know about this. It could be a hitch in the plan.

Our hope is that the crystals would raise the vibration in the tank,
and keep the energy moving, but not in an aggressive or erratic way.

The tank's purpose is to help facilitate states of deep relaxation.

Oh I would definitely not use clear quartz to induce relaxation... it's quite stimulating. It has it's benefits, obviously, but for relaxation I would be inclined to use maybe a small amethyst. It would raise the vibration while also being more relaxing. I don't know anything about floatation tanks though so I cannot say whether the effect would be to overly space him out, when the tank itself already induces relaxation. When using crystals you do also need to be aware of grounding and being anchored within your body - and as many of them work with the upper chakras (amethyst included) then grounding is very important - so exercise caution.

Okay, thanks.

The thing is...

The tank itself is excellent for inducing relaxation,
and for grounding and anchoring you in your body;
if anything, the danger there is of energy stagnating,
so, if the crystals are stimulating, it might be balancing.

Although I think you are probably right,
we might have to experiment, just to be sure.
