Calling all Raw Foodists!I never really come to the Health forum here and was surprised to see some posts on raw food. I first heard about the raw diet in 2003, and in the last 6 years I've tried 6 other times, this being my seventh. The longest I've ever been 100% raw was for 2.5 months (about 75 days) 6 years ago. The last time was in November for a month. So I decided to try this, no COMMIT to this, for 100 days, to see what effects it will have. Ideally I'd like to try it for longer but that seems overwhelming to me. I've already lost over 60 lbs on Weight Watchers but I still have 20-30 to go, and I don't feel good in the 'diet' food, not like I felt while Raw. I'm sick of regularly binging on crap (it's amazing I haven't gained more than a few lbs the past few months) and feeling like an addict. Luckily I found some local raw potlucks (why didn't I take advantage of these before?), so that should help. I also already have 30-40 raw books plus a food processor and dehydrator, from all my other attempts at raw. Who else here is a raw foodist, either 100%, high raw, or just interested? I thought I'd be the only one until I came to the Health forum... IP: Logged |

Awesome, Shankara! You have made great progress! Kudos to you!I am preparing myself to go raw - have been waning out animal products and by-products from my diet for a while. Gave up sugar and white flour stuff. Trying to give up coffee... There are many things I need to do before I go raw. Slow and steady seems to work for me right now and I am looking forward to a healthier life. So far, I've managed to lose 30 pounds on this regime. Colon cleansing is next and that will give me a push in the right direction. Another thing that seemed to help with my diet a long time ago was doing yoga. When I did yoga, I had no cravings for animal products, in fact, they repulsed me! My body knew what it needed before my mind could catch up with it. Raw food, lots of water, sunlight - I was a bystander in the whole process, my body told me what to do. I know it sounds weird but that's how I felt. Hmm... Yoga then it is! Yin - I wish I could do it gradually, but it seems like whenever I tell myself that I will be say, 80% raw, pretty soon it's 70%, 50%, 10%, plus all the junk food crap. I'm really addicted to cooked food and junk food. I have been a vegetarian for a long time, so that is one thing I have conquered at least. Good luck with your transition to raw! I do really love yoga, especially Vinyasa/Power yoga. Some day I'd like to try Ashtanga, or the Yoga/Karate fusion class that's nearby. I'm going to see Angela Stokes-Monarch and Matt Monarch when they come here to speak in a couple of weeks!SunChild - Are you the same SunChild that I've seen on the Alissa Cohen forums? I'm 'Carly' over there, I was 'Shankara,' but I couldn't post under than name for some reason. So what is your secret of staying Raw for so long? tomorrow is the big day eek! I went shopping today, more expensive than usually but I think it will be worth it. I have to switch out my microwave with my dehydrator tonight! IP: Logged |

Cool, it looks like we have a little support system here... Welcome back, Shankara!
SunChild, YES!
Yin, I'm so happy for you. Find what works for you, and work it, lol.
I'm on day five of all raw foods, except for some concentrated organic grape juice. But yesterday was just juiced veggies. I have felt more energized and much much happier. Despite some irritability (or perhaps partly because of it), I think my sense of humor has improved. This is giving me a lot of hope. I'm not thinking about the future, just taking it one day at a time and grateful for the momentum. I dont know why its happening now, but I'm just so glad that it is, and I'm not thinking of stopping.
