Just goes to show, no matter what you're diet, it's important to get your blood tested at least once a year and constantly re-evaluate your own personal dietary requirements, and adjust accordingly!I'm not a raw foodist, but i have been a vegetarian for...ooohhh...13 years? I've never been anaemic (and i don't even take iron supplements at all!), although i have had megaloblastic anaemia (B12 deficiency) but that was in the first year and never since. My last blood test, everything was spot on except for my vitamin D - i am severely deficient in vitamin D! And with the body of new research constantly emerging about this wonder-vitamin (it's not only thought to protect against osteoporosis, but now also heart disease and even cancer - especially skin cancer, and even breast cancer in women!), I'm starting to think I should take this vitamin a bit more seriously! I can't get enough vitamin D from my diet, or even the sun (i went outside to hang the clothes on the line the other day, and got sunburnt! Freakin unbelievable!) so i have to remember to take D3 supplements temporarily, until i figure out the right balance of sunlight for my skin! As he said, you'll only notice symptoms once the damage is already done. Prevention is better than cure, people, so I think one jab once a year is a good signpost, no matter what your diet IP: Logged |
