Yeah, stuff yourself full of the fake stuff. No, I'll say: Dairy, nuts, seeds, beans. All protein rich. Orange juice, dark green leafy vegetables will help your body absorb iron better. Try that for a while, it's probably cheaper too. IP: Logged |

Have to agree with the Ferrous Sulphate route here. It may be fake but it will (2 weeks) boost your iron levels to a good level. You will be bouncing off the walls! The key is to take a couple a day with orange juice (it speeds and assists absorption )and then gradually decrease the dose over a few days when your stools resemble tar! You will know then that your body has reached max uptake as it excretes excess. And then follow the dietary rules as listed in previous post. Do this once every couple of months. Fake is ok every now and again.IP: Logged |

I was already taking a good diet like fruits, nuts, etc. Then also I go into this iron deficiency, which results in mouth soars, brittle nails, falling hair. That is the reason I thought to take tablets quickly to help myself.IP: Logged |

Have you actually been diagnosed with iron deficiency? Sounds more like a Vitamin B deficit to me particularly with the mouth sores. Do you have cracks at the side of the mouth (cheilosis)? Bend the palm of your hand backwards. If there is no red there then you probably are anaemic. Get a good Vitamin B12 tonic too.IP: Logged |

I have iron deficiencies too. I am eating more spinach. I am also going to eat an egg every day. I am a lacto ovo vegetarian since December 30th of last year. Before that, I hardly ate red meat.
who knows how long I have been deficient in iron Raymond

My test results also showed up iron deficiency. I eat spinach almost 2 times a week, but that did not help much. However, vitamin b12 is helping and I am taking Ferrous Sulphate.IP: Logged |

Plenty fo vegetables are good sources of iron, especially dark leafy green like kale, collard, chard and turnip greens. You should eat a cup of dark leafy greens everyday if you're a vegetarian and have problems with anemia, as these vegatables also are rich in other nutrients, like copper, zinc, vitamin C and vitamin K, that your body needs to ulitize the iron. Also legumes are a very good source of iron, and you should probably be eating at least 1/2 cup of legumes a day as well. Lima beans, cannelli (white kidney) beans, black eyed peas and black beans are all very good legumes for iron.If you take an iron supplement, take it with a vitamin C supplement or with vitamin C rich food in assure proper absorption. Do not take an iron supplement at the same time or within 4 hours of taking a calcium supplement, as large doses of calcium will block iron absorption. If you need to further supplement with copper and/or zinc, beware that you should not take these two together as zinc supplementation can interfere with copper absorption. Best to take your copper supplement with your iron supplement, and then take your zinc supplement at a different time of day. IP: Logged |
