The worst thing you can do is to suppress the appetite and therefore eat less.
The body is a self regulating organism and will therefore adjust your metabolism within a fortnight to adjust.
This is why calorie control diets DO NOT work.
You will then have a body that needs less calories to maintain it's body weight.
Cut out all high density carbohydrates for a few weeks except for breakfast i.e pasta, bread, rice, cereals.
Get your carbs from vegetables, SMALL amount of fruit, salads, SMALL amount of potatoes.
Eat as much protein as you want.
Do not get hungry. Protein will stop this.
Hunger is a body's mechanism to tell itself to start storing fat.
Do not touch anything that says "Low fat"
"No added sugar" "Low calorie"
That is another way of saying
"There is so much effin sugar in this already we don't need to add more"!
Have some protein before bed.
Whey protein shake or a boiled egg or a piece of meat.
ON IT'S OWN!
Never combine high dense carbs with protein.

This is from my Anit-Ageing Chiro... he likes to spread the newest research.

Green Tea’s 10 Healthy Benefits

http://www.newsmaxhealth.com/headline_health/green_tea_10_benefits/2010/04/20/314582.html?s=al&promo_code=9C68-1

Green tea undergoes less fermentation than other varieties and is a rich source of immune-boosting polyphenols. Like other plant antioxidants, polyphenols help neutralize free radicals, harmful particles that can damage cells and DNA, cause inflammation, and lead to a host of illnesses.

How much green tea do you need to reap the antioxidant rewards? In some cases, it could be as little as one cup a day.

1. Cancer: The risk of lung cancer appears to be five times lower for those who drink just one cup of green tea a day, according to a Taiwanese study. “The antioxidants may inhibit tumor growth,” I-Hsin Lin, of Taiwan’s Chung Shan Medical University, tells WebMD. Other studies link higher consumption of green tea with lower risk of numerous other cancers, including breast, stomach, skin, oral, esophageal, prostate, uterine, pancreatic, and colorectal cancer.

2. Heart disease: Those who drink green tea are significantly less likely to die from cardiovascular disease, according to research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. One study estimates that three cups of tea per day lowers the risk of heart attack by 11 percent.

3. Cholesterol: Green tea lowers total cholesterol and LDL (“bad”) cholesterol while boosting levels of HDL (“good”) cholesterol, reports the University of Maryland Medical Center.

4. Depression: A little more green may lighten the blues. A study of elderly Japanese individuals notes that those who drink more green tea experience fewer symptoms of depression.

5. Brain power: Japanese researchers also find that those aged 70 and up who drink at least two cups of green tea daily score better on tests of mental function including memory, attention, and ability to follow instructions.

6. Weight control: Green tea does contains caffeine, but according to a Swiss study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, green tea boosts metabolism and fat-burning to a degree “beyond that explained by its caffeine content.”

7. Diabetes: Green tea aids in regulating blood sugar, the function impaired by diabetes. “Tea may be a simple, inexpensive means of preventing or retarding human diabetes,” write the authors of an animal study in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

8. Kidney stones: Green tea can affect the formation of calcium oxalate crystals — the most common component in kidney stones – making them less likely to grow to problematic size before being eliminated from the body.

9. Vision: The tissues in the eye have been shown to absorb the antioxidants in green tea, indicating that “green tea consumption could benefit the eye against oxidative stress,” concludes a report in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. Oxidative stress is linked to cataracts and glaucoma.

10. Colds: In laboratory conditions, the polyphenols in green tea can both kill influenza viruses or prevent them from infecting other cells.

To get the best out of your brewing, use green tea within six months of purchase. Steep it in water that’s slightly under the boiling point for about one minute (more or less according to taste) and garnish or sweeten as desired. But don’t add milk — the proteins will lessen the effectiveness of the tea’s polyphenols.

Green tea may raise your energy expenditure, and speed weight loss, according to a new study.

Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a compound found in green tea, was shown to increase fat oxidation (burning) by 33 percent.

This result comes from one of many studies that have looked at green tea's potential in weight loss. EGCG has been shown to be a key component in many of these studies.

EGCG could help aid weight loss by:

Increasing metabolism and fat oxidation

Inhibiting fat cell development

I take apple cider, 1 T. twice a day to help me digest my food. I have a lot of scar tissue in my abdomen from major trauma due to peritonitis 12 yrs ago, plus other abdominal & female surgeries. Eating normal is a major issue for me...I am lucky that I am still able to eat solid foods, but I have to be extra disciplined and careful. I am at a high risk for bowel obstruction so this helps improve my quality of life.

I had peritonitis 37 years ago and it almost killed me.
Like you it affected everything in the abdomen.
Sorry you were hit with that nightmarish experience too.

I do vinegar too.
I like papaya enzyme.
Raw kiwi is good, but be careful using either if your stomach is too sensitive.
Both really help break down proteins.
Keeping a good PH balance whilst losing weight is important too.
Take Acidophilus supplements if you do not want to eat yogurt.

Thanks for the link!

Thanks LEXX!
It's nice to have someone who KNOWS the nightmare. I almost died too from my stoic stubbornness of pushing through the pain and waiting so long to seek medical attention. The ER experience itself was a nightmare. Luckily I transferred hospitals and ended up in the capable surgical hands of my treasured OB/GYN. My most recent visit he gave me the biggest smile and hug...you know that student/teacher bond. He refers to me as infamous...as he will never forget the experience I gave him with such a challenging surgery. Lucky me. (yes, I'm being sarcastic)
Wellness to you!

hey writesomething,

now that you're losing, what is working for you?

I ask because I seem to be gaining lately and it's quite depressing

My mom has gone from a 20 down to an 18 in pants and those are loose on her. She's not doing much different. Just eating better. She's eating a lot of spinach salad with different meats in it like chicken or shrimp. She adds mushrooms, tomatoes, sometimes boiled eggs. She's eating more fruits too. She looks SO good and it's amazing me how fast she's loosing it too.

Ive lost 6 pounds so far....and the number isnt budging at the moment...but I work out almost everyday, and try to do at least 3 miles at the gym. If not 3, then 2..if not 2...at least 1..lol
I eat a lot of veggies, fruits...mostly organic.
Lots of water, with lemon juice.
I eat egg whites(fat free) low carb, I add some cheese sometimes, or cut up tomatoes, avocados, etc..
I drink Green tea or coffee..one or the other at least once a day...
I try to eat my foods seperately. So for example, if I eat food with fat in it, I wait an hour or 2, before I eat something completely different. I dont like to combine fat/carbs together..(does that make sense?)
I try really hard to just ignore the scale.

That's awesome...
I will keep that in mind.
I want to start going to the gym and I'll probably drag my daughter along with me lol.
I know for sure we both need to cut out the soda's.
If I don't do it so much for myself, I'd do it more for my daughter. She's gaining weight and I just don't want to see it get out of control for her. She's only 18.

Great tips here!

Have you read Linda Goodman's weight management tips in Star Signs? Is it true?

I also stumbled upon a dna activation site today; it mentioned in passing that one of the effects of activating the other strands of dna is you'll realize that your body is also a thought form...

In between pregnancies I was able to maintain a very healthy weight after losing 20kg of baby weight! That is a lot of weight to lose and it was easy because I followed simple common sense strategies.

a. 3 small healthy meals a day, 4 hours in between each meal so I was truly hungry, really hungry and stopped before I felt too full. It's something to get used to but it works amazingly well, the body gets used it and becomes lean.

b. lots of walking places, stretches and never say no to physical activity

c. nutrient dense foods first, good fats/oils/, eg.. whole cream on a banana, it wont make you fat. eg. 2 avocados sprinkled with dulse.

also want to add that having a "plan" hardly works long term, you simply have to get used to feeling hunger in between meals- which is totally healthy to do, get used to not filling up your stomach- that is harder!, and having a very active lifestyle where possible. Drinking liquids instead of bulky food half the time and training your body to get the most from the least.
