I got this as an email today. I am throwing away all tupperware containers...

On the Ellen show, Sheryl Crow said that this is what caused her breast cancer.
It has been identified as the most common cause of the high levels of dioxin in breast cancer tissue.
Sheryl Crow's oncologist told her:
women should not drink bottled water that has been left in a car.
The heat reacts with the chemicals in the plastic of the bottle which releases dioxin into the water. Dioxin is a toxin increasingly found in breast cancer tissue. So please be careful and do not drink bottled water that has been left in a car.
This information is the kind we need to know that just might save us! Use a stainless steel canteen or a glass bottle instead of plastic!

This information is also being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. No plastic containers in microwave. No water bottles in freezer. No plastic wrap in the microwave.

A dioxin chemical causes cancer, especially breast cancer.. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your

plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital, was on a TV program to explain this health hazard.

He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us.He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers...
This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat and plastic releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramiccontainers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin.

So, such things as TV dinners, instant soups, etc.,should be removed from the container and heated in something else.
Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc.

He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved awayfrom the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons...
Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran wrap, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.

The bit about Sheryl Crow is an urban myth and isn't true. This is an email that is years old and in various cycles it says that different people attribute their cancer on bottled water left in a car. There's also quite a bit of controversy about a lack of evidence or scientific facts about dioxins and/or plastics. That said, my own doctor told me to only use BPA-free plastic bottles when hiking (like the Camelbacks) and to not store or cook food in a plastic container or use plastic wrap or a microwave. My doctor is very sharp and very knowledgeable, and I'm suspicious enough about plastics and phytoestrogens (like SunChild mentioned) just based on my own limited reading on them so I tossed any tupperware long ago. I think it's definitely worth a little time researching if you're using plastics or bottles. And not using bottled water is nicer for the planet anyways!

dunno about cheryl crow but i have refused to drink water in a plastic bottle that has been frozen or allowed to sit in the heat for years. something about it just put me off and still does.

if your plastic says "1" inside the triangle it should be okay in NORMAL conditions, but ditto microwaving in plastic containers...microwaving is bad enough!!!

on the other hand my sister consistently freezes her bottled water, uses the same one for a week at a time and although she has plenty of health issues no sign of cancer. there is also no cancer in my family that i know of and many of my relatives are even less careful about what and how they eat so maybe we are genetically protected...

though i came across a story the other day that says dna and genetic testing is not all its cracked up to be and many people are being misled by the supposition that they are made like their ancestors even if they have the same genes!! jury not out on that one...

You're right, LEXX.

I wasn't going to point it out, but,
as a moderator, WINK should know better.

Nothing personal, WINK.

Never reuse any plastic bottle. If you do, you are slowly poisoning yourself. I'm not sure about platic wrap, but I always use a towel.

Well, with the toxic water here, I will take my chances with bottled.
Something about having to boil the city water and ask ones doctor if they are well enough to drink it just creeps me out.

Well the moderator was dealing with a virus all morning, so perhaps you could try using a bit more patience.

Valus.. I've been trying to keep a happy medium and give you some wiggle room. I haven't been throwing insults your way, but most of the time I agree with what's been said as far as you throwing your temper tantrums.

I posted this here because it could go either way in my opinion.

Are you really so childish that you need to sit there and point fingers like some 3 year old "look, is her's going to get moved too"??

This is rediculous...you are going to start or continue running people off this website because they don't want to continue reading your BS...

I give myself a warning on this one!

starkiss1, could you stop with the nasty comments, please?

You have repeatedly called Valus names and have been purposely malicious and degrading.

OK?

starkiss1, I'm not sure what you are referring to. I am sorry if you took offense at something that he may have said. Sounds like the veganism threads where he made a point that animals in factory farms live no different than prisoners in concentration camps awaiting their death. I happen to agree with that.
However, if you have an issue with Valus, it will be more decent to address it with him, rather than insult him behind his back.

Buying bottled water and using it once is better than reusing them over and over again. Reusing them causes erosion which you can't physically see. But like Randall said is poisoning you. Also, I recommend buying a CHEEKI bottle- a stainless steel bottle that makes the water taste GOOD and FRESH all the time. Plastic bottles make water taste plastic within hours.

I installed a home filtering system that is incredible- I use it for washing veggies and everything else. This morning I ran the regular tap water to wash out something and the chlorine smell was so strong, the thought of drinking it was impossible.
I would rather drink bottled water but always pour the water into stainless steel, glass or clay flask. Or get it from a spring which I probably do twice a year lol

Intuitively for years whenever I've left water in a hot car I chuck it. The smell is like liquid plastic.

Water is a noble element and should be treated as one!!!! And it will take care of you.

Thanks for pointing this out, Yin.

Starkiss,

I never compared you to a racist. I made an analogy with racism as an example. That is not the same as comparing you to one. When you tell me that you wish to call me a word beginning with the letter "M", after you already said to me "this is the most idiotic thing I've ever heard", it is obvious that the word is "Moron". So, whether or not you use the word, the insult is as clear as day. I made an analogy, saying that, if you were to say to a black person, "I want to call you a word beginning with the letter "N", but I am sitting on my hands," it would be obvious that the word is "N*gger". Can you see now that I was not calling you a racist or comparing you to one, but using an example? It was the best example I could think of, since everyone knows what the "N" word is.

I'm sorry for comparing you to a mentally disabled person, and for using that word. Remember, though, you did tell me that I had said the most idiotic thing ever. What I had said was TRUE, and intended to help people. If you take the time to examine the evidence I presented, you would see that I was not being idiotic, but helpful, even to the point of possibly saving lives. But I don't think you want to look at the evidence or know the truth.

Can we please let go of things that were said in the past, now, instead of repeating misunderstandings that have already been explained? Can we try to live in the present, and to assess situations based on what is actually happening now? That would be great.

yin,
And, no,it wasn't about vegetarianism.
It was about highly sensitive CANCER topic.
I happened to lose a dear friend to this disease, who was a vegetarian, if you remember.
You must, because you posted to me there and then, saying "sorry" about my loss.
Anyway, I don't want to go into all this, because it's upsetting me still.
If you want proof, you can go and unearth that thread yourself, girl.
I just wish you had a better memory, when you rush to conclusions that your BF is always right, yin.
Because he is not.
He has a lot of maturing to do before he deals with real life.
And with real people who experienced much more grief then him so far in life.
Have a nice evening, yin.
