Dear Ami Anne & SunChild, I would love any advice you could give me on matters of nutrition! My doc's got me avoiding all foods high in vitamin K while I'm on the blood thinner, which sucks - I love spinach, broccoli & cabbage, among others - but I hope to get back to a regular diet once they have my clotting factors where they want them. My cholesterol's been on the higher side in the past couple years - triglycerides in the low 200s and total cholesterol as well, so I would welcome your advice on bringing it down. I know my diet is to blame - despite being a lacto-vegetarian, I've blown it by indulging one too many times in high fat desserts while travelling and have not had well-balanced meals either. I'm going to have to get back to a schedule of cooking balanced meals and regular workouts once again. Lots of love, Sunshine
I see you are from Chapel Hill.I LOVE Chapel Hill I am gonna think about your question of nutrition. I am feeling you have some emotional things going on ,too. I am an ovo--lacto vegetarian, too. I am mainly raw foods but I am not strict. If I want something I have it lol I am feeling you are holding old childhood patterns that may be contributing to the cholesterol issue. I am my own lab when it comes to cholesterol. I have figured out some things which may relate to you. I had an insurance physical and was SHOCKED to see that I had high cholesterol cuz of my veg diet. A few high fat/eggs/cheese foods should not raise chol in a "normal" person. You can see from your "skin" if your chol is high. If you have little fatty kind of pimples on your face, the forehead on me, your body is not dealing with fats, right.------------------ Jesus never put his trust in man cuz he knew what was in man. The skin is having to take out fat rather than the other elimination routes. I notice in myself that I can have virtually NO animal products without getting these little pimples. If I stop all animal products ,they go away. It takes a few weeks,I think.I LOVE eggs. They are so satisfying. I love to make an omelette but it seems like I just eat and eat them if they are around. The same goes for cheese. Now,I try to just have them when I go out. The larger point is that my body should NOT be this reactive to fats/cholesterol ------------------ Jesus never put his trust in man cuz he knew what was in man. My family has high chol as a family trait. However,Henry Wright says it is an emotional issue not a genetic one. He says that when the chol does not function right in the body, one is holding deep patterns of self hatred, very deep, perhaps unknown to one. He says that two people in the same house can eat the same diet. One will have high chol and one will not. The mechanism is more than food. I felt the desire to share this with you. I will come back later and talk about food. I am 75% raw food. I love it ,now, and miss it if I don't have it so it is not a struggle. When I eat raw and veg,I have no chol issues at all even though my psychology is the same lol Disclaimer---I do not care to argue with anyone on the chol issue. I am just sharing what *I* have learned and my own experience.

Thank you, LEXX & cathy! Dear Ami Anne, You may be very right about the effect of emotional issues on my eating patterns.. I can't tell probably cause I'm too involved! I know I used to be healthier even 2 years ago (as far as triglycerides go), though I weigh less than I have in many years except when I was in high school. These days, I seem to gravitate toward high-fat choices like croissants, danishes, love buttery pastries, usually go for some bread with my butter (!), am a carb lover to a detriment (love pastas with creamy sauces, rice), and lazy about eating healthful veggies despite being a vegetarian. I love cucumber, carrots and broccoli, among other vegetables, so I don't have much excuse except the tiring travel schedule I used to keep, I guess. That most definitely needs to change.. Wow, you eat raw food; that sounds super healthy! Does that mean mostly raw vegetables with dip, or are there recipes for raw food? (Sorry if that's an ignorant question; I've not ever spent much time thinking hard about how to eat healthy!) I will look for the Henry Wright book - is it "A More Excellent Way - Be in Health"? It sounds like I'd like it - I tend to prefer alternative medicine over allopathic when I can - Bach flower remedies, homeopathic remedies, chiropractic - so I'm looking for alternative remedies now. That is really interesting you're able to figure out if you have high cholesterol! Please do share how, if you don't mind! I have had occasional breakouts before (T-zone mostly) but it was well-controlled by the OCP. Now that I'm off it, I may well be dealing with more breakouts. I'm like you in that I love cheese, and eggs on occasion too. It makes sense what you say though - avoiding animal products (does this include milk? or can you have low-fat milk?) can avoid introducing unnecessary sources of fat into our diets. I'll have to cut down on my fat consumption too.. An aside note on the pimples - drinking milk with acidophilus or taking them in pill form (ie., the Lactobacillus acidophilus) can help. I remember when I was off the pill for a few months some years ago, and having terrible breakouts at the time. I tried whatever I could think of - tea tree oil applied topically, acidophilus pills, sulfur creams - they did help, and I liked the first two in particular. I wish I'd just continued with those rather than deciding to get back on the pill for additional help. Anyways.. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom & findings with me, and please do share more as you are moved to.. I welcome it! I do myself believe that most illnesses are more psychosomatic in origin, and would rather heal in a safer manner than otherwise. Sunshine IP: Logged |

Thank you Sun Child and Sunshine, That is the Henry Wright book. I am gonna think about your post,Sunshine, and get back. I eat about 75% raw. I will be happy to help you with raw food. I know Sun Child is an expert in nutrition and natural health. I guess I graduated to some level with raw food cuz I was eating raw Asian cabbage with Paul Newman Ceasar Dressing ,the other day and thinking" This is so delicious" lol------------------ All life is in the sand box.
