Can anyone give me any advice on any dietary, herbal/ holistic remedies that will bring relief to the symptoms of PCOS?

My main symptom is acne, well i wouldn say its like normal acne, it makes me get red sore/ spots on a daily basis. My skin is a mess right now and feelin constantly sore and inflammed.

Maybe medication is the only answer, but i have been on anti-biotics and they've been crap and bought on other side-effects and the inflammation, spots/ sores never completely go. The dermatologist said to try roccuntane; but this has far too many bad side-effects and i know it does clear the skin, many success stories but nevertheless i'm hoping for a natural approach.

So please if anyone can offer any advice i will appreciate it so much.

Thanks in advance.

for acne you need to avoid oily foods, sun heat and grime and always make it a point to drink consume fresh fruit juices.
Wash your face with cold water frequently.

As for topical application for acne-Use ointments or gels containing 4% niacinamide and 1% clindamycin. There are many brands available with the above composition in the pharmacy. It will surely help.

Thanks for the response.

The problem i have though, isn't externally, but internally PCOS creates a hormonal imbalance and produces excessive amounts of androgenic hormones; which in turn gives acne. My skin is normal to dry so not oily and i cleanse very regularly; so none of that stuff works. Im wondering about any specific herbs maybe or foods etc..

Okay ru taking any medicines for diabetes?
Or are you obese?
You have to avoid sugary and processed foods such as cheese, fried foods and other fatty foods.
Whole grains, fresh vegetables and lean meat, beans, fruits and nuts are good.
As I said earlier avoid sugar, fatty and oily foods.drink lots of fresh juices.
Should avoid smoking and regular exercise like walking and jogging will help alot.
Check your self for thyroid and blood sugar as well.
Make a healthy diet and exercise a routine.
Apart from this you can even use the acne ointment I mentioned above.

Raw foods and raw juices work wonders.
The book "There are No Incurable Diseases" by Dr Schultz, would be what I would do.

i have this and i know exactly where you are coming from. when doctor gave me pill for estrogens, it induced cystic acne in me and i couldn't go out, i started avoiding people because i thought my face is too bad, and it was trust me

then i stopped taking the pill and started my own regime. it must be having effect on your weight too, so first of all start exercise, because that way your hormones will start getting better balance, and most important check this out, do for about a month and notice the difference in your body, because it helped me http://scottgillespie.articlesbase.com/health-articles/fast-weight-loss-tricks-901724.html

for acne, well, i started eating raw garlic and onion, and trust me my face has never been clearer ever before in last 13 years of my life. all the acne has just vanished. i eat 2-3 garlic cloves everyday and an onion raw with bread, everyday. its so good for you you will be amazed at yourself. topically when i had a pimple or two during last one month, i will simply cut a slice off a potato, not sweet one, other one, and rub it on the pimple area. then when it dries, do it again. repeat as often u need. the pimple goes away usually in 2 days w/o leaving a scar.

besides all this, for the scars that acne left me with, i rub fresh aloe vera juice on my face every night.

so basically its all about your hormones, my doctor says even the cysts shall go away if your hormones are in better proportion, therefore, balance them and rest will go away. for that try the spinning and i have found yoga positions too a great wonder for balancing hormones...

it takes 2minutes of your life, but its worth a try.

Rajii and love being aries thanks for the info. Lba: i am in no way overweight, but i get bloated easily, even if its healthy food. Like il not eat much for a while and then as soon as i do its really noticeable; i kinda feel like i have a tendency to bloat everywhere and just feel heavy. Onion and garlic, i knew garlic was good for the skin and helps with collagen in skin too but how do u deal with odour, i take it u have to do this early or last thing at night to brush ur teeth after. Im gonna try and do the spinning too, it helps to balance. Is this done thru waking them up n distributing them more evenly kinda thing?

bellesoul,

By 'spinning', I think LBA meant spinning classes (stationary bike) at the gym.

Have you tried homeopathy? One of my cousins did, early on after being diagnosed with PCOS, and hers was treated in 3 months. I wish I had done the same.

Some years back, my doctor said I may have it and put me on the Pill, which helped much with the complexion. Due to adverse events a few months ago (blood clot), I had to go off the Pill, and am currently trying to figure out the same thing as you. I'd like a natural approach to getting rid of blemishes as well.

I've been having some success, though I'd like the blemishes to disappear faster. Here's what I'm doing:

I'm using a combination of cucumber & lime on the face to smooth the complexion overall and fade existing blemishes. I am also finding a combination of salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide to help when I find the occasional new blemish. Salicylic acid (and the acid in lime/lemon) helps with exfoliation & keeping pores clean. I've found a Burt's Bees acne kit with a great face wash & moisturizer that has this. The benzoyl peroxide (which should not be used with salicylic acid, i.e. at the same time) attacks the acne-causing bacteria. This I find harsher so I use it less - Proactiv (if you live in the US) makes such a product but I'm not terribly happy with the fact that it's not as natural. Alternately, you may want to get a benzoyl peroxide cream from the stores if you don't already have it; I use the one from the Natural Solutions acne kit.

In the past, I've also tried acidophilus supplements to replace the good bacteria in the digestive system that gets killed off with antibiotics - I now drink acidophilus milk regularly & eat yoghurt with the cultures. That may be helpful to you as well.

bellesoul,

I wanted to add another thought. The caveat is natural _topical_ remedies are useful at treating the symptoms of PCOS at the surface level, but not the underlying cause.

You haven't said if you've seen an Ob/Gyn or an endocrinologist. Please make sure to get bloodwork done regularly to monitor the hormone levels. That said, the effect of PCOS on fertility is most easily treated, per my Gyn. All the same, I'd get someone to monitor hormone levels.

Ultimately, whatever topical remedies you use for the acne, make sure to get the underlying cause treated. Homeopathic meds are preferable to anything an allopath may give you.

Good luck with it, and do keep us posted,
Sunshine
