Hi mskimx4,

May I what climate you are in right now? I am in the winter North/East US and my skin tends to dry. During the winter the following has worked for me
• For cleansing I use yogurt , tea tree oil and cheekpea flour, it cleans my skin without drying
If I get a pimple I use a white toothpaste( not the gel) with a drop of tea tree or Oil of oregano. The little paste dries up the pimple.

To remove white or black heads-I make a little paste of salt and toothpaste and smear on my nose I leave it on for about 10mins, and with a warm water and a wash cloth I wipe clean. It’s very effective , but please do not use too often since it can dry the skin very much.

• I also take a natural Vitamin B complex,
• Fermented cod liver oil Vit A &D
• Natural Vitamin E
During the summer I cleanse my skin with castor and olive oil, and I add essential oil depending what treatment I do want to do with my skin.
At night tend to rub grapefruit or lemon on my skin and leave it on for a while. I do use lots of different oils.
At night I mix a natural Vitamin E, or Fermented cod liver oil with either a rose hip oil or camellia oil
I do not use any cream or cosmetics with alcohol
What is your regular routine?

I always get complimented on my "glowing, dewy" skin and asked how I do my makeup which is nice to hear since I am naturally inclined to breakout, get whiteheads, and blackheads-- planet face :.(

I rarely have skin issues, aside from an occasional pimple when I have my period, since doing the below:

Exfoliate- every other day---maybe start once a week because you can over exfoliate which will make you skin overwork by excreting more oils and also make your skin rawer (more vulnerable)-- which isn't good for people like us

Moisturize- For the am: I use a tinted moisturizer by Aveeno, argan oil, a spray with vitamins by MAC, a vitamin enrich makeup primer
For the pm: I actually make my own night-cream which is a mix of different kinds of creams. I also use an under-eye moisturizer by Bare Minerals and argan oil.

Cleanse- Noxzema and Neutrogena are the brands I go for

WATER WATER WATER-- Your body has to be hydrated... when you are hydrated, you will have more subtle bouncy skin which will reduce likelihood of wrinkles and it keep your skin clear.

Makeup:
I use Bare Minerals (overall face, lips, eyes), Urban Decay (eyeshawdow, eyeliner), and Smashbox (concealer, primer, blush, bronzer) without any breakouts. There's this ubber cheap brand, Hard Candy, at Walmart which hasn't given me any skin issues.

And refrain from overdoing it

Hope it all made sense

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize;

1. Hydrate yourself adequately. If you get bored drinking water, alternate and eat fruit that has a "watery" feel i.e water melon, oranges, grapes(with seeds) etc.
So long as you get essential liquids.

2.Avoid staying up until the wee hours of the morning.

3.Protect yourself from the sun(sunscreen as well as protective clothing).

4.Take a shower/bath early in the morning or around 7pm at night. Skin is dehydrated , especially in summer, when taking a bath/shower around midday.

5.Avoid oily foods at all costs.Essential fats are fine , but what I mean is stuff like "french fries", "fast foods","fried chicken" etc.

6. Exercise. Anything that gets the heart pumping and gets you sweating(yes, even sex). Skin is also another way that the body releases toxins and unwanted salts.

7.Moisturize your body after taking a bath. Not just your face, but all over.

Nothing I've said is cast in stone,; its just some things that I have been doing for years now.And they seem to work for me.Some of the advice may be rivalled by even better suggestions. I stay open; so long as it is practical.

All in all, a lifestyle of balance and everything in moderation is a lifetime pursuit. You learn new things as you go along.

My secret weapon?

100% Pure Coconut oil. Everyday after a shower rub some on your face, let it soak in, wipe any excess & shine off with a tissue and then go about your regular make-up routine.

I swear I havet had a pimple since. It took about two weeks for my skin to get used to it, but if you look up the properites and benefits of coconut oil you will see why it works well in helping keep skin clear. One would think it would clog pores but it does the opposite. It nourishes and kills germs at the same time.

I got a big jug from and Indian store, it will last me forever. & i don't need to wear foundation or concealer anymore - that actually aggravates my skin now. It looks healthy, clear and glowing from the oil alone.

Enjoy!

Hope it works for you too.

"The benefits of coconut oil can be attributed to the presence of lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid, and its properties such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial, soothing, etc."

it will actually unclog your pores.

I use Parachute oil for my hair all the time; makes it shiny and my scalp feels amazing after washing it out. You can also use castor oil for skin, and steam the oil off with a hot towel.

To keep skin clear you can make a paste out of gram flour (chickpea flour), turmeric, and milk and leave it on your skin for about 30 minds before washing off with warm water. I find that it prevents break outs extremely well and even minimizes acne scars and clears white and blackheads. Turmeric is amazing for your skin, your face will feel like butter afterwards!

Cancer/Scorpio, yes! I also use it on the ends of my hair every so often.

Do you ever use Amla powder? I find it at Indian stores and make it into a paste for a facial pack. Skin has never felt better after one of those!!

I agree about chickpea/turmeric being amazing for skin too!

hope mskimx4 has a store around where she can get these products, but they are just as easy to order online. What's even better is they are inexpensive and all natural.

Let us know what you try and if anything helps, msk.

If you can get your hands on some Rose Water, your skin will love you for that too. Most natural foods stores carry it.

I've also been told that Sesame oil is very nourishing and cleansing for skin. Not sure if i'd use that one on your face, but it's supposed to be great for body.

I think coconut oil might be most gentle and beneficial for sensitive facial skin.

I usually have to run my bottle under hot water or take it in the shower with me to liquify it because it does solidify in cool or room temps. Doesnt take long to melt some down though. I only use a few drops per day on my face.

another fave is french green clay powder. I havent done one of those in awhile. You can usually get green clay powder at natural foods stores too. Mix it up with some water and slather your face. It will draw out toxins and feel oh so refreshing when you rinse it off.

Hmm, have never used amla powder before though I go to the Indian store all the time. I'll look for it next time.

I just microwave my coconut oil and pour it into a bowl, lol the bottle doesn't melt.

And yes, rose water is amazing for both skin and scalp! Cools the way a toner does. It's expensive though, so it's easier to make a huge batch at home.

My secret is drinking plenty of water (at least 2lt per day - just buy a 2lt bottle from the s/m). On the days when I don't drink as much water, my skin looks rather dull. Oh, and soda/pop does not count as "water" (!).

Hi T,

I was wondering if the tumeric stains your skin? I can use only very little otherwise it will stain my skin.I prefer to use the aritha or neem powder neither one stains my skin.

thank you,

Hecate

Hecate, I only used a little too because i heard it stains skin. Can't remember what I mixed it with and made sure not to leave it on too long just in case.

My fave is Amla powder. It's mainly used for hair, but also great on skin. I didnt like the way it made my hair feel when i used it on it, actually.

Oooh I *love* amla for hair! I love using indian herbs to wash my hair and the amla is pretty much necessary to counteract the drying properties of aritha and shikakai. Awesome, I didn't know you can use that for skin too, do you use it as a mask?

To stay on topic.

When I don't have make up on, I love washing my face with honey. It's an anti-bacterial humectant and really makes skin glow and helps to keep skin free of blemishes. And if I do get blemishes they disappear very quickly.

ooo yeah, honey is amazing, internally and externally.

Yeah, mix the Amla powder with water and make a paste then put it on your face and let it sit a bit. Wash it off and notice how amazing your skin feels and looks!
