As I've started to pay more attention to such things, I have noticed that I am at my most erratic and irritable and edgy right after I wake up. I'm not sure why this is--even before I have coffee (and I have been reducing the amount of coffee that I drink, slowly; going cold turkey in the past produced massive headaches and MAJOR crabbiness so I'm going slow and gradual this time). I'm an early riser and always thought of myself as 'energetic' in the morning, but I'm realizing that this energy is actually anxious energy more than anything else.

Does anyone else experience this?

I'm also noticing that caffeine-free herbal teas have been really helping a lot to keep me in a calm state, though they seem to be more effective after a certain point in the morning rather than before.

I've been trying to pay more attention to my body to as to minimize anxiety and so as to be as calm and together as possible.

I'm most anxious and erratic in the afternoon. Around 4 - 6 pmish. It's actually the exact time period I was born. During that time I have the highest amount of energy and feel restless, it's actually the time of day I prefer to exercise for example do yoga because I not only put that vitality to use but I chill out from those zen yoga activities. I also drink tons of herbal tea throughout the day 4 - 6 cups. It helps me calm down. I'm not a morning person and I usually have green tea and white tea or a peppermint/licorice/ginger/lemongrass mix tea in the morning.

I love herbal tea, I have a whole cabinet filled with all kinds. Raspberry Leaf, Ginger, Green and White tea, Echinacea, Mint, Licorice and the list goes on. I always get caffeine free herbal tea also, because I don't like stimulants and I also avoid alcohol and other substance depressants. I've got enough anxiety and restless energy without stirring the point up with stimulants like caffeine.

I think Joan has a point. This anxiety could well be restlessness.
I'm no longer addicted to caffeine (used to be when in Grad school) but I still like it in the morning.
Have you tried a quick morning run or walk? It could wake you up and use any excess energy trapped in your body.
I get restless when not active enough. With Mars in my 1st, I must be active to be happy and calm.

PS: Regardes, I will respond to your PR string, no worries about it. It just takes me a bit longer as I am mostly "on and off" these days. But I plan to respond and I like to keep my promises.

I think that I do feel anxious and restless, both of those.

I don't know why, but I tend to think about issues that I am having with people first thing in the morning. Maybe it's me being a Libra (Sun, Mercury, South Node). Right now, I'm VERY concerned that I've screwed up things so bad that certain people will never be able to change their negative opinions of me. So, that's been on my mind almost every morning this week and I've been worrying about it a lot. I feel restless about it because I feel the strong south node Libra urge to fix things, but am restraining myself. I feel the need to DO DO DO, NOW NOW NOW (which actually sounds more like Aries), but am forcing myself to stay silent until I see people in person, and, even then, not to mess up--to be more Aries-like, less 'overthinky'.

People issues and financial/career issues are dominating my life right now.

I do find that exercise helps, but I still worry a lot.

I'm trying to be more assertive and act more carefree/act more like Aries, but I'll always be the Libra at heart.

I drink a lot of caffeine-free/decaf herbal teas.

I find that I usually feel less erratic and irritable about 11am. I'm trying to figure out a way to speed this up a bit and get myself calmer before then.

That early morning bad feeling would be the Liver meridian. I would strengthen that, as best as I could.

The difference is that an Aries won't "feel" this way and sit quiet about it. An Aries will DO. It's an assertive doer. Words, feelings, worries, anxiety is all Libra.
An Aries won't be as diplomatic as Libra is (Mars is a bit rough around the edges) but at least he *will* get the point across fair and square and right on your face. Do you have anyone close to you who is a fire sun? If you do, study them. Ask them what they would do if they had the same people issues as you do.
And STOP WORRYING!!! If exercise won't do it, find another outlet: sing, paint, dance, whatever. This isn't good for your body to keep this anxiety going while doing nothing about it. Address the issue head-on. Don't be scared to make things worse. Remember that you have to get your hands dirty if you want to play in the mud. Emotions aren't always pretty! That's OK!!! You have to let go of these people. Go talk to them as an Aries woman. Then drop it. Consider it the End. You will see how they will come running after a while.....

Both of my parents are fire suns (Sagittarius).

My mother's attitude is that if people don't like her, too bad. She doesn't always think before she speaks, and even when she gets into trouble, she seems to have this idea that it will all work out all right anyway.

My dad is not at all self-conscious. He will usually be kind and patient, but tells people off when he needs to.

And I had to laugh at "emotions aren't pretty". As a Libra, I do tend to like things "pretty", but I can learn from fire signs on this one.

I think you are being influenced by the "planetary" hours. Also, each day is ruled by a planet.

Mondey - Moon
Tuesday - Mars
Wednesday - Murcury
Thursday - Jupiter
Friday - Venus
Saturday - Saturn
Sunday - Sun

Strong sensing individuals can/will feel the energy of the hour and day.
