I wanted to have a conversation about different lifestyles. The subject matter is VERY interesting to me. I wrote this on another thread but I'd like to make it more of the focal point of discussion. I'd like to hear from others personal experience anyway, or their general philosophy on the matter.

What I wrote:
Isn't it interesting when one enters the 'pure' lifestyle that illness of the spirit is almost inevitable. Eg. Orthorexia ect... It becomes a disease of the mind hence it's terrible effects on the human spirit. It is surely something you put in the way of happiness, because you believe 'if i keep this up' or 'do this or that' then I will 'get "there'". The preoccupation. The sacrifices. The deprivation. Sad news! I mean you can go on stints to give ones body a break, but in the end we need the forces and elements of the world to maintain balance. All those 'poisons' are on the other end of the spectrum medicines! I drink coffee everyday, I eat meat now and then whenever I feel like it because rather than thinking about it, and wishing you could eat it, I go & eat it! Then it's done you feel good, your belly is full of subtle powers. Tobacco, Pot & Alcohol can be bloody fantastic. Being conscious about it all is what the goal is, rather than going blindly down a path because of what Doug Graham or Superman says is the right way, or the way the gaunt spacey breatharian down the street says that's the only way to ascend!

Well-said, and ultimately, I just do what my body tells me to.

To each their own, I think. I feel sad for my roommates, because they don't take care of their bodies at ALL, but they seem to not be bothered about it. One has just dealt with kidney stones (at 22 yrs old and 5'3", nearly 200 lbs) and doesn't understand HOW she got them. I could have told her the diet of highly produced, sodium filled foods she eats doesn't help... just like the doctor told her.. But you can't tell another person how to live their lives. They will make their own choices. Hopefully they will realize that they only have ONE body, and ONE soul in this lifetime and at least consider taking care of them.

I am with you Randall. I don't completely deny myself anything, because that's just making myself unhappy. If my body says "eat a steak", I will do it.

Yup.

Sometimes your body tells you wrong but forcing it in any direction is also wrong.

Everyone's balance point is different.

Everything in moderation as the ancient greeks said... But, I'm completely against indulging in things that brings great harm to another living being, so for me there's no such thing as a moderate amount of meat.

Sometimes my body tells me to juice and eat raw for weeks and weeks then I must eat something that doesn't fit into that category.... I guess body knows best.

And sometimes I believe in detox, it's like giving your body a tune up so those signals can get through & we can know the difference between a craving and what the body needs. THe body-mind knows all.
