I can't believe the majority of people in California don't want to know what's in the food they are eating.

Lots of measures aren't what they appear, they're trojan horses to screw the people, so I'm careful of that and I guess others are, too. The measures, much like politicians, are backed and opposed by such lies (the stench of lies is just so overwhelming, I hate having to wade through it) that people can't help but become suspicious, especially when it seems like there's a lot of smoke & mirrors involved or seems shabbily thought out.

Prop 37 was just one of many that gave me fits in trying to figure it out (and what, if any, hidden angles were trying to be sneaked past voters and unintended consequences could result from it). After a lot of frustration reading arguments for both sides this almost convinced me to vote against it:

Luckily a lawyer I know helped clarify some things and address some of my concerns so that I changed my mind to voting for it. Most people, however, don't have access to a trustworthy lawyer willing to talk about the arcane details of a measure and their likely consequences (intended or otherwise). Had I not listened to a lawyer I'd have voted against it myself as a dirty trick pretending to be something it wasn't and a way for big biz to slam small biz (or at best that these people needed to do a better job at hammering it out before putting it up for a vote). That said, I'm still not entirely happy with it, but it seems a step in the right direction. I just wish people in politics were a lot more trustworthy so I didn't have to put every line under a microscope and wonder how the people who make these bills (or opposing them) are trying to screw us now.

Hopefully it will be polished & improved and put up for a vote again.

PixieJane, you got lucky with the lawyer indeed. I remember reading prop. 37 and thinking "What the heck does that mean exactly?" It's too bad we need lawyers to translate these things for us.
