So.....

I intuitively knew and almost expected my liver to take a hit from all of the prescription meds I have been on for heart issues..

Sure enough, my last labs came back with elevated liver enzymes.

I have been struggling with elevated cholesterol (a family issue) and triglycerides through the roof, and I was on a med to lower the trigs, but when I got them into normal range I got off of it cause I was so fearful of my liver.

To make a very long story short:

I am down to one med for blood pressure, will wean myself off that and go for more holistic methods as I gain strength, Lexapro for my PTSD and an allergy med.

I have gone back to a very low carb diet, NO sugars, absolutely NO fructose, and per research, saturated fats seem to help the liver rid itself of accumulated fats.

I drink only herb teas, water, gave up alcohol cept for one glass tonight, gave up sodas. I have ordered a quality liver detox and a quality omega 3.

I refrain from alcohol hand cleansers at work, even these can absorbe into the liver.

No NSAIDS (back and arthritis issues on the back burner now.)

I am doing the very best I can to heal my "fatty liver" ( just mystyped "lover" )

Any ideas or more things to add to my plan is very, very much appreciated!!!

Liver... Jupiter?

Sorry about those liver issues

Dr Peter Breggin talks about side effects of drugs, and withdrawal. Even if subject isn't "exactly" your issues, perhaps his medical viewpoint will be understandable to you and usable in some way.

gosh, i didn't realize that using alcohol hand sanitizer can be bad for your liver. (kids around this neighborhood drink the stuff).

with your medical background hippichick, one thing i have wondered about is the constant use of hand sanitizers and antibacterial dish detergents... if that can get down into our stomachs and kill off good things in our digestive systems?

wonder if it could even affect the glands that take care of detoxing (liver)the body?

Thank you Lexx!!!

Mirage, thanks you for the links! And according to one wacky doc I once knew, some elementary school did a study on hand sanitizers, used as were meant to be, on the hands and before and after labs some children showed elevated liver enzymes.

It has been long known that they kill the normal flora on our hands, they kill everyting and erase the natural barrier our hands have to pathogens.

I wonder about the amount absorbed via the skin, as in the alleged elementary kids, and more stress on the liver and the body as a whole system.

We are not required to use them, there are there for convenience, especially for family and visitors, but I will not be using them anymore, plain old soap and water for me!

Actually there is a bug, an intestinal bug ICU patients often get, it is from being on so many antibiotics, called c-diff. This one bug is especially resistant to hand sanitizers which makes me wonder what other bugs we are making resistant with so much use of the hand sanitizers?

Have you tried taking milk thistle? It is the one herb that has a mountain of medical reasearch supporting it.

Liver Wake Up!
from Aurvedic Cooking for Westerners
by Amadea Morningstar

One quarter to one half fresh lemon, squeezed
One quarter teaspoon turmeric
One cup HOT water

Drink when you wake up, on an empty stomach. If you can handle the taste.

I'm also trying to clear out my liver, have started taking Milk Thistle Daily and am focusing on easier-to-digest foods.

Good luck!

You're very welcome!!

Yes, turmeric is super healthy and cheap. And I love the taste. Just please watch your clothes because it stains! I should've mentioned that before.

Sending hearts to your liver, too~

Been on the wagon for 12 days now, have had NO sugar since I got my liver labs back. A quality breakfast shake in the am and all leafy greens and usually fish in the afternoon. VERY low carbs.

SEVEN pounds down, feeling awesome!!!

Get my liver checked next month!

YAY!!!
