Have any of you had experience with this?My husband gets it terribly, especially when he's under pressure or strain. When he was a grad student/gta, he dropped down to 150-something at 6'3''. It's acting up again, and...well, I won't go into details. Those of you who've seen/experienced it know what's happening. I've been juicing fresh fruits and veggies so their nutrients are nice and easy for him to digest. He doesn't want to go on medication if it can be helped. Do you have any further suggestions? I can think of a thousand things but don't know where to start and don't want to overwhelm you.I assume he knows what foods he may be allergic to...if not, rotation diets are good for pinpointing the culprits. They always sounded tricky to me, but just within the last few days I have cut out soy and also gotten rid of some crushing afternoon fatigue I've had for the past ten days or so. So I think there's a connection; I had been eating tofu almost daily in an effort to be more vegetarian lately. Has your hubby tried probiotics? My favorite form is the drink Kombucha. I drink GT Daves Multi Green Kombucha (most health stores, even grocery stores around me, carry this) because it has wheat grass, which works synergistically with the beneficial bacteria (as do ginseng and carrots.) Also, this is an impressive story: http://www.crohns.net/Miva/education/jordanstory.shtml ^I would probably try HSO's if I had IBS, based on my reading of Jordan Rubin's book, Patient Heal Thyself. They essentially saved his life as he was battling Crohn's. *** I'm a full-blown weirdo advocate of Ayurvedic eating principles. I would be lost without them. Basically, because I am also prone to skinniness (Vata imbalance) I have to be sure that I eat enough Kapha food (lubricating, heavy) or else my guts are a mess. I have a hard time breaking down fiber. The book Ayuverdic Cooking for Westerners is my guide for understanding how food is likely to affect me. And Type A blood is part of the story of my finicky guts...low stomach acid. So I know I only have a bit of leeway with my dietary choices or I will pay the price. My friend with IBS has Type O blood, and I'm pretty sure she doesn't avoid these trigger foods. Dairy, especially, is really difficult for Type O people to break down. And wheat-based foods (fiber) can wreak havoc as well. I'm sure you already know a lot of this, 'just covering the bases as they occurred to me. Hope he feels better soon! IP: Logged |

Sorry about not answering yet. I'm on day three of a stomach bug from H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks, and I'm not yet up to giving a good response. I'll revisit this thread when I can keep down water.IP: Logged |

Thanks, guys. This bug can go ahead and pack its bags now. Probably graphic, but this is health and healing: I have nothing left to, er, expel. It's all bile now. At least I've stopped throwing up and the headache's abated, though ------------------ If I've included this sig, it's because I'm posting from a mobile device. Please excuse all outrageous typos and confusing auto-corrects.

It was pretty rough. This bug hit me hard. F wanted me to go to the hospital, but all I could think about was the money involved. I told him he could take me when I could no longer resist. Now my middle daughter has it and F's traveling, so I'm just here pushing fluids and food. I will take her if she gets as bad as I was. She's so little - the smallest in her Kindergarten class (a pale and dark-haired Taurus with a Pisces Moon with some of the most striking deep blue eyes I've ever seen) - so dehydration's a concern. We haven't found anything that's an obvious trigger/allergen, but also haven't done much in the way of rotation. He travels between 50%-75% of each month, so it becomes difficult to really do anything concerted. quote: Has your hubby tried probiotics? My favorite form is the drink Kombucha. When he's here, I've given him some supplements, but that's about it. I'll have to look into Kombucha. quote: Also, this is an impressive story: http://www.crohns.net/Miva/education/jordanstory.shtml ^I would probably try HSO's if I had IBS, based on my reading of Jordan Rubin's book, Patient Heal Thyself. I'll definitely look into those. *** quote: I'm a full-blown weirdo advocate of Ayurvedic eating principles. I would be lost without them. And I will definitely have to look at that. I actually no nothing about it. quote: And Type A blood is part of the story of my finicky guts...low stomach acid. He's O-, so I'll have to look into that. quote: I'm sure you already know a lot of this, 'just covering the bases as they occurred to me.Hope he feels better soon!
