So, I have decided to wean myself off of Effexor a SNRI (seratonin, norepinepherine reuptake inhibitor)

Was on it several years ago, went cold turkey off of it, and suffered....kind of like a heroin withdrawl..I have heard, tho never experienced myself.

Going to get off this med and utilize the tools my therapist taught me, and science has shown that PTSD CAN be reversed by psychotherapy and guidance. The brain CAN re-learn what it has lost!

I am excited, ......

Prayers and blessins, please?

Many, many good thoughts and blessings to you, hippichick!

Good luck!

The brain is such a marvelously complex, elastic organ.

I just went cold turkey off Benadryl, yes, BENADRYL, and it was much worse than when I went turkey off Effexor 10 years ago. I literally thought I was going to die, had to sleep with my room mate. Took 3 weeks to get over :-/

I had:

severe heart palpitations
low blood pressure
nausea
dizziness
constipation
delirium
couldn't breathe
insomnia
panic attacks
was sweating like a dog
lost 10 lbs

I only took 2 pills (50mg?) per day for allergies and sometimes insomnia.

That's great news hippichick! Good luck!

I've been eating a lot of raw food lately, and reading up on the health benefits of raw fruits and vegetables. Lots of people talk about how going raw, or just eating a lot of raw food, has alleviated their depression.

When making this adjustment however, I have occasionally had bouts of "emotional detox" and unexpected spells of really low moods...last time this happened, I took Sam-e and was fine after one dose.

quote:
In the United States and Canada, SAM is sold as a nutritional supplement under the marketing name SAM-e (also spelled SAME or SAMe; pronounced "sam ee" or "Sammy"). SAM is also marketed under the Gumbaral, Samyr, Adomet, Heptral, Agotan, Donamet, Isimet and Admethionine brand names as a prescription drug approved in Russia, Italy, and several countries within the European Union. Some research, including multiple clinical trials, has indicated taking SAM on a regular basis may help fight depression,[8][9][10] liver disease, and the pain of osteoarthritis.[11] All other indications are not yet proven.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam-e#Therapeutic_uses

Just in case you are weighing your options with natural supplements, I thought I'd share this.

O, and by the way, decided to cold turkey..

48 hours and counting now....

So far, so good.

Like I said, I did it one time and was on it less time than this time (so many "times" )

I had really bad experiences with anti-depressants in general. Side effects were milder than with benadryl. Keep in mind that they CAN appear quite some time after you think you are out of the woods, like a second "surge".

Terri
I don't think it will be easy. When you run into problems( if you do, you may not) this would not mean that it is not a good idea. I just don't want you to equate any problems with meaning you should not go off it.

Just my 2 cents and I would study natural herbs etc that could substitute as there are always some. Even celery juice helps anxiety and things like this

Charlie and Ami

Like I said it before I have done it before, being on it longer than I have been this time, just 3 months this time, but prior to that had been on Lexapro for ever.

I am determined and not afraid of the withdrawl symptoms, if any. Cant be any worse than I think the med was making me feel anyway..

Thanks for asking, Randall, yes much.

Still a bit dizzy, tweaky in the head a bit emotionally labile, but slept better did not take off to any other universes in dreams, thank goodness!

I read the metabolite of this med hangs on for weeks, so I have put myself back on my liver detox...

But yes, all in all, day by day....its my Friday so have next 4 days to recoop!

geezzzz...never again!

Some slight funniness in the head, but feeling good.

I made the right decision and would not take it back for anything!

Thanks for the support!

And I still have lingering head trips...

Like I turn my head, look at something and my mind slowly follows...

Same with my ears....turn the head and the sounds catch up a bit later.

But again all in all I am winning...

Realtor coming Wednesday, house on market soon, then back to the Midwest to be with my grandpa and heal.....
