I've taken a keen interest in veganism because I've seen how cruel animals are treated and also because of health benefits.

I'm a teenager and I want to get into the habit of doing it, how do I start?

Wean yourself off meat and chicken. I have fish and eggs because my friend has his own chickens but don't eat commercial eggs.

You want to go slowly if you don't have a disease and need to do it fast imo

Eggs I don't eat often. Chicken sometimes if my dad adds some of it into a meal or something.

I've gotten off beef and pork.

Also, something I'm wondering:

I've been vegan for a couple of days and erm.. I hate to be blunt but I've been farting alot.

Is this just a phase? Like a detox or something I mean. for real lol

I have a beta thalassemia trait from my dad. I eat alot of foods with iron (beef and stuff). But i also eat loads of spinach. I am told by every doctor that I am in excellent health and growing properly and healthily so there is no concern there.

My friend had that.

That's interesting about your beta Thalassemia.

I'm mostly AA, but it's believed my great-grandfather was Greek--I wonder if that's where my relatives and I inherited it from. Fortunately for me, I have pain attacks very infrequently.

Back on topic:
LOL @ farting! That's okay; your body is taking in a flux of fruits and vegetables (possibly beans). It's just the enzymes of the food reacting with each other, and that'll happen when you eat living, fresh food. ESPECIALLY if you've changed your diet around, your tum is just adjusting to the change, so it's okay.

I am big on food combining; certain foods will cause flatulence if you eat them together. For example, if you're eating vegetables and a protein together, it'd be better if you eat the veggies first because they digest faster than protein. If you eat the protein first, the veggies will sit on top of the protein and ferment, causing gas.

Try drinking kombucha, eating kimchi, and other live, fermented foods to regulate your digestion and replace good bacteria in your gut. It'll help! That and mint and ginger, either in teas or fresh.

Good luck on your journey!

Start by eliminating red meat (beef and pork).
