World Mental Health Day is supported by the United Nations (UN).

It is held on October 10 (annually) to raise public awareness about mental health issues worldwide.

The theme of World Mental Health Day this year 2013 is “Mental health and older adults”....

THE CARTER CENTER ORG. On World Mental Health Day, Oct. 10, we here at The Carter Center will pause to reflect upon the many advances in the field of mental health, including improvements in diagnosing and treating mental illnesses, as well as advancing parity for mental health in our health care system. Despite this progress, however, myths and misperceptions about these disorders persist, which can lead to social stigma and discrimination.

“Unfortunately, there just isn’t a lot of education out there about mental illnesses, what causes these disorders, and how they can be treated. As a result, many people who suffer from mental illnesses are afraid that if they seek medical help, they will be ostracized by their communities,” says Rebecca Palpant Shimkets, assistant director of the Carter Center’s Mental Health Program.

“In addition, stigma and misinformation breed the more serious problem of people facing discrimination when seeking jobs, housing, or transportation,” Shimkets says. “On a larger scale, public funding, services, and supports often are considerably less available or robust than other kinds of medical care, even though mental illnesses affect one in four Americans each year.... Research shows that one of the best ways to fight stigma and discrimination is to have communities meet and talk about these issues....” [end quote]

I've started reading Agorafabulous, today. Whilst I haven't been exactly as the author was, I can relate to SO much that she's written. My mother is going to read it after me, and I'm glad, because she might finally understand how I've been feeling.

I'm tired of being crucified and spoken down to, when I've tried to describe what I go through - I've been told all sorts of things, like I'm selfish/self-absorbed, when I'm not. I feel an incredible amount of shame, and then to deal with shaming from others - and to be dragged into their BS when I want none of it, and be treated like crap through that, too - it's just too much.

Teasel.... ((hug)) Underneath all of that,--- THERE lies your Strength, and your Power.

It's not your fault....

I've ruminated about this for years now.... This is what I've "found" for MYSELF.....

I know the philosophies out there say that we unconsciously set ourselves up. AND, 'in a way' of seeing, it is true--- but it needs to be activated WITHOUT 'the shame' that gets 'coupled' by people who say this in order to perhaps "put us in our place"-- Which to them is 'the bottom of the dog pile' sometimes.... (The sheat is there in their applebutter they offer)....

Our psychology-within is designed with this feature that can help us "to see" the hurt and outer drama as separate from us/self. It's the way our human psyche works...

When it is 'not us'... then we may somehow 'awaken' in the midst of the pain and turmoil, *sickovit experience*... In those lucid moments we have the opportunity to have an 'objective' way to instantly TRACE history back to the original place of 'separation'... and suddenly you can KNOW The Truth of what is the 'real you'--- With enough repeat visits to that place of origin, we can be sprung from the looping trap. Eventually, the energies that had been built up around the event will melt and drop from before you, like a false wall.

'Who you are' is the real you inside, in the calm center. The remainder becomes like big noise & loud distractions... phantoms of our past.... only phantoms.

Know you are the Best of who you are.... and that's the excellence inside.

...Please remind me of my "possibility" when you find me in fits of despair.... And I will remind YOU of YOUR worth.... We are all beautiful gifts. Everyone has something to 'give'....
