Good day, I've been searching lately, I'm looking to find myself. I am actually just trying to figure out how I work and how I can find peace and balance within me. I have a high speed, supersonic mind, a hyperactive mind that never shuts off or slows down. Then, within my heart lies 36 years of built up emotions that I have never released, instead I just kept piling everything up inside me. I have read and been told the meditation can be very helpful too me, but I'm illiterate towards it. Does anyone here meditate or have any advice? ------------------ Sun in Gemini - Moon in Pisces - Ascendant Scorpio IP: Logged |

That sounds difficult, it is hard to still a mind like that. The thing is not to empty your mind, but continue to focus on the point you have decided you wish to access knowledge of. Like some say, it's easy to meditate on the object of one's affections. Perhaps more difficult to hone in on a more abstract concept. When you do arrive, it is beyond words... IP: Logged |

Meditation will be easier and even more successful if you practice some sort of grounding ritual or exercise first, or perhaps use grounding stones or grounding oils. IP: Logged |

Releasing built up emotions can be traumatic if you try to do it all at once. It's like peeling an onion. Try peeling away one layer at a time so you can monitor your success along the way. IP: Logged |

I'm personally not very adept at clearing my mind of chatter (I honestly don't make much of an attempt, though...I become frustrated rather easily with that sort of thing). If I want to focus on something spiritual or psychological, like clearing away negative "stuff" from my psyche, I do use stones and music or mantras that help me to do that. I also burn sage, which is always helpful for me, personally. You could try YouTube for meditation music (I always find it distracting when there's someone talking you through a meditation). I've found a wealth of beneficial, healing music and mantras on there. It just depends on your preference or spiritual beliefs, I suppose. This article looks like it could be helpful, if you want to read through it. It offers some basic techniques for releasing negative energy, feeling more grounded, etc. http://wildflowerpara.wordpress.com/2010/04/02/basic-psychic-defense-how-to-ground-center-shield/ IP: Logged |

You could look up websites on Mindfulness. These present simple meditation techniques which should work well for you. These are based on focusing on the breath or simple bodily movements, such as mindful walking. Basically, they help to still the mind and be more present within the body. That, in itself, is a very useful basis from which to cope with life in general. As an intro, see You Tube videos by John Kabat Zinn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmEo6RI4Wvs His research on mindfulness has led to its use in clinical settings. In the UK, for example, it is used by the National Health Service as part of cognitive behaviour therapy, or to treat people with anxiety related disorders. Spiritual beliefs are not alluded to - anyone can practice these techniques successfully. IP: Logged |
