Works on skin of all colors.

quote:
Black Soap, also known as African Black Soap (Anago Soap, Alata Simena,or Ose Dudu), has long been used to heal problem skin. Its good for thinning fine lines, evening out dark spots, eczema, razor bumps and eliminating blemishes. It is also used to lightly exfoliate and give you healthier looking skin. The soap can also be used on your body or hair or for oily skin, dry skin, skin rashes, scalp irritations, body odors and is good for sensitive skin. There are many other claims to the benefits of black soap, which may be proven/disproven by the user.

Some people call this soap "miraculous" (see YouTube reviews like this one.)

I've only used the soap once, last night, and I have to say, my skin already feels so smooth, it's a little weird.

'Will keep this thread updated on my progress with it.

I really liked using this soap as a body soap (I bought the bar form from a local co-op market), but it did still dry my face a little bit.

I tried washing my hair with it (I really, really dislike using store-bought shampoos and conditioners, so I've tried a lot of stuff, haha), but it was also kind of drying on my scalp (I suppose that would be expected, but I tried it anyway).

I think I just have really dry, sensitive skin. :-/

But I still love the stuff!
It's great for a body soap.

Maybe I should try the brand you're using...

I'm glad you've tried it and like it, Violets! For a body soap, at least.

First time I used it on my face, my skin got dry and then mysteriously seemed to self-moisturize a half hour later. (Can you tell I am practically desperate to become a believer in the whole "miracle product" hype around this product? )

Next washing made my skin tight and there was no delayed, heaven-sent moisturizing.

This morning after it got tight I just caved in and used coconut oil. I think it'll take a while for me to get a sound opinion on how the black soap affects my skin. If it shrinks my pores so you can't even see them anymore, I will want to have a huge party to celebrate.

I'm using the cheapest stuff imaginable, not the full-blown authentic raw stuff directly from Africa. Nubian Heritage is the brand, $4-$5 at Whole Foods, looks like this:

Well, I use Shea Butter in my mixes.

The Plantain, especially in such a concentrated form; is going to do two things.

One; just like when you use it for a bee-sting or venomous bite, it is going to draw the poison.

Two; it is going to be drying.

Of course, if it is different herbs on different days, who can say?

Weird...I was literally JUST thinking about what you had mentioned about plantains and venomous bites, like 2 seconds ago.

You crazy Libra with your amazing pychic powers!

I was pondering the fact that I never seem to see them around here. We have things that look like plantains, but they don't have the little foxtail looking thing in the middle.

Anyway, back to topic...

I just want to make my own soap, but I want to make it from wood ash and all that, so...I'll have to wait a while.

This is the kind that I bought, it was only $3 at the local co-op, but it did dry my skin. I believe it's Fair Trade, though.

That's wonderful information, Ellyn. Thanks.

Faith, you are SO fortunate that you can use coconut oil on your face!

Every time I try that, regardless of quality or purity, it makes my skin break out horribly. I look like a middle aged woman who got stuck in puberty if I try to use it on my face, neck, or shoulders.

Maybe if you just use it like once a week or something?

Hmm...
