So the area that I'm in had some neat shops
I thought I'd share what I got.

I visited a place that use to be a psych ward. But they turned it into condos, shopping area, and a fine Italian restaurant. I was not expecting to like the shops so much.
I smelled homemade soap around the corner and yes it was a store that made all kinds of beautiful homemade organic soaps.

I ended up buying carpet freshener in a mason jar...when I run out, I'm hoping I can make some my self.
All it contains is:
baking soda
organic lavender essential oil
organic lavender buds

you lightly sprinkle on carpet and rugs, wait 5-10 minutes and vacuum!

Here is their website
harborviewlavender.com
and www.notably-natural.com

I also bought a picture Jasper bracelet next door at a place called Silver Fox

Whoa, seriously. At least they didn't turn a pscyh ward into a prison, a hospital, or some sort of "ghost hunting" commodity. It sounds like such a pleasant transformation. I've seen so much worse...

Cool that you found some great stuff!

I do make my own carpet freshener, btw...really easy, but nice to buy from locals if they're selling it.

Baking soda and whatever EOs I feel like at the moment.

Very cool, when I do run out, I plan on making some more.

Good to know that I don't NEED to have organic lavender bulbs in my carpet freshener. Cause I have no idea where to get those. Must be a fancy bonus.

Think I'll test it out today. Want to try it in my car carpet to0, but it rained today.

So the EO mixes well with the baking soda? I've also been wondering about that.

LOL at the fancy bonus part.

Well, yeah...

I wouldn't say that the EOs mix super well with the baking soda, it's a tiny bit clumpy, but I shake it up really well, sprinkle it around, and then vacuum, and it doesn't stain or anything (although I wouldn't suggest using an EO that has a definite color tinge to it, like cinnamon, lemon, or orange or anything, just to be safe).

It works for me!

Thanks for the tips!
I tried it out yesterday, still smell it a bit today.

For some reason my folks own 2 vacuums, when I vacuum with both of them they give off a burned vacuum cleaner smell!(one worse than the other) And I'm thinking doesn't that defeat the purpose!? But once the burned vacuum smell went away, the house smelled much better with the lavender and baking soda.

I even did some in my car. I think my car really needed it since I stopped smoking in my car a month ago. I'm not at a place where lingering cigg smells bother me, but I know how much it can bother others who don't smoke.

Glad to hear that it's working for you!
We also have two vacuum cleaners, and just as we're trying to sell our house, they BOTH stopped working properly.

Thanks, Mercury retro.

I made one as a house warming gift for my friend along with some spider repellant.

I was eying an empty mason jar to put it in for days, but I think my dad grabbed it. So I had to use a pickle jar. Hopefully the baking soda can get out the pickle smell. Cause washing it with dish soap did not.

That's probably one of the trikiest things when resycling something, having the smell from the old thing linger.

For her spider repellant I used a spray bottle that was a sweet pea body spray. I washed that one and the smell still lingers. But I don't think my friend would mind on that one.

I also made a carpet cleaner for my boyfriend. He has been on a cleaning kick lately. It's hard to tell but I guess he really likes things in order, or the will eventually bug him. He really has no deep cleaning products so I made him a peppermint carpet cleaner. He has less space so I made him one from an old jam jar.

I even have sticker labels to put on them.

Uh, yeah...so could ours. Toddler in the car = surprise banana peels and whatnot. I get in the car, and I'm like what the !@#? is that smell?!

Oh...it's a half-eaten banana from two days ago. Mmmkay.

Stawr, I often use recycled coconut oil jars for mine. The smell isn't too bad, and I can usually get the oil out pretty well.

that's so funny about the bananas!

I thought about using a coconut oil jar, I have a few empty ones hanging around the house.

I'm using a coconut oil jar for making shaving cream. I cleaned it out with dish soap and then damped a paper towel with vinegar and wiped it. I've never tried cleaning with vinegar before.

Is there a special way you clean yours out Violets?

No, not really. I suppose I just wash them repeatedly, until the oil is completely gone, ha. I also don't use paper towels (possibly more of a nuisance than it's worth, but...eh), so I'm thinking that wiping them out with an old dish towel might work better than a paper towel? I have no idea, honestly. I just know that they come clean reasonably well.

I also use honey jars a lot.
