Thought I'd ask cause my guy is into knowing what's in our food, drinks, water, medicine, products just like me. He has expressed wanting aluminum free deodorant. He currently uses "Old Spice" I buy Tom's of Maine. They have aluminum free. But I thought I might try making some deodorants, I might even make one for him. So I thought I'd ask people with experience what kind of EO sents do guys like for themselves? When it comes to scent, my guy likes typical guy smells. So nothing that smells like flowers, fruit, or dessert. haha Though he likes the smells of fruit, flowers, and dessert, he'd rather admire that smell on well...me! LOL Right now I own 3 EOs. Peppermint, lavender, and rosemary. Peppermint seems to be my most "manly" smell. I'm very exited that they have Pine oil. I LOVE the smell of pine! I would buy that someday. Anyways what manly EO scents do you recommend for a guy? IP: Logged |

Orange/Cedar/Clove?Needs a Nut Flavour to go with it. Cinnamon is Hot! As in I got burned. Careful. I like Balsam of Peru, a sort of Smoky Vanilla Scent. Amber is nice. My Son loves Lemon Grass. Sandalwood is Fixative, so a good base, but getting more scarce. Might go with the Orange/Cedar/Clove? Really, it's a matter of taste. IP: Logged |

My husband loves it when I make him a cologne with Cedarwood, Lemon, and a touch of Lavender EO. He still smells like a lumberjack, but the lavender and lemon balance out the Cedarwood a bit. Sorry...I can't help the Monty Python references, hehehehe. Anyway, that's my go to recipe for him and anything I make for my brothers. IP: Logged |

Thank you ladies. I currently do not have any of those EOs except for lavender. But I do plan on buying more and having a good size collection someday. Oh yeah, I think my guy might like cedarwood if it's lumbarjackish, since he is outdoorsy, but is also the type to shower everyday. He even told me one time that if he can't shower when he first gets up, it throws off his whole day. haha IP: Logged |

Hey, I was looking up Bayberry, and ran across this recipe. Bay Rum and Old Spice are close? IP: Logged |

What a cool blog! Thank you, I tried looking at the old spice deodorant and all it said was "fragrance." hahaBay leaf, cool. Bay leaf is actually a high priority oil on my EO want list, because of it's property to repel cereal bugs. (had them bad in kitchen a week ago. But found a box they were nesting in threw some food away, and they are almost all gone now.) IP: Logged |

It's a different Bay, it's Pimenta racemosa, and you just make a Tincture.(Herb in Alcohol) Think it said Health Food Stores have it, I haven't checked. The 1866 recipe was different, I think. Oh, hey, look, I found it! IP: Logged |

Like Snow White and Rose Red.Sorry, guys, I'm old-school. I learned to read from The Brothers Grimm. Seriously, I have my first numbers and letters written in that book. Think it had backwards sevens. IP: Logged |

I love *both* Snow Whites! I've read some of the stories that show how the Snow White legend got started, way back in Italy in the 1400's. I tend to believe that all fairy tales have a legit beginning. IP: Logged |

We had this guy used to live down the road from us.He was a mixed up old man from the mountains. Sometimes we would feed him supper, and when my Daughter first watched that movie, she made him wash up outside in the cold water trough. Water gets really cold up there... IP: Logged |

LOL did she say "Let me see your HANDS!" Cool I just found a site that shows what notes are used in perfumes and colognes. I can click on an EO scent I have and see what goes well with it. http://www.fragrantica.com/notes/ IP: Logged |

Surprisingly Lavender is used in many colognes like La Nuit de l`Homme Yves Saint Laurent(for men,) Encens et Lavande Serge Lutens (unisex,) and Woods Abercrombie & Fitch(for men.)When I make deodorant for my guy I think I'll do peppermint lavender. Cause that's what I have to work with currently. I've been shopping at Whole Foods once a month I'll probably invest in a new EO. But yes I'm getting really into making my own stuff, and fragrances are fun to dabble with. I think I eventually want to make my own perfume, body sprays, and cologne. And when it comes to quality EO's, it seems that you get what you pay for. It seems worth it to me you know what's in your fragrance. According to Campaign for safe cosmetics, the vague word "fragrance" on products can contain "butylated hydroxyanisole." But yeah the price of EO's, nothing that I can really go on frequent shopping trips for. Though I might eventually do that for as a reward for quitting smoking when it's been so many months. I thought I'd look into seeing how easy EO's are to make, and from the one video I saw, they are not! It's a pretty advanced set up to make them your self at home. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8-zxWKAVK8 I think I'll just leave this one to the professionals. However infused oils look so easy and fun to make! My mom buys some at a Christian store. They are more diluted in smell. And she gets them at a single digit price! So whatever EO's I don't have I can still have a wide variety of natural fragrances. You can buy herbs/flowers or get them for free on whatever is growing on your property, or out in nature. My mom tells me her oils go rancid quick though. Hopefully adding vitamin E oil will give the ones I make a better shelf life. The easiest way to make them is the letting herbs sit in a jar about 8 weeks with any carrier oil. I really want to collect what's growing around here right now like some yarrow, other wise I'll just eat some oranges and put peels in the jar. Citrus seems to be a popular fragrance. Of course EO's are of higher quality. It's cool to buy an oil and then learn more and more what it is good for as time goes buy. I originally bought peppermint oil for headache relief. As time went buy I learned that bugs dislike the smell of it and use it to repel mosquitoes. Mainly because of those two things, I use this oil the most. Putting it on my pillow at night helped me sleep when I went though a period of having a hard time sleeping. I put some on my boyfriends stomach when he has a tummy ache. I bought Lavender due to its popularity in lotion and potion natural products, and knowing bugs don't like it too. Yesterday I learned that it can relieve mosquito and deer fly bites. Great to know for camping and spending time outside on a buggy evening. Learning so much, it's going to be hard to choose the next EO to buy. IP: Logged |

Olive Oil is the most stable, that's why I use it for the Herbally Infused Oils.Lavendar is a great one, I once made one that had a Very powerful aroma. Normally it has the Herb, but not always the aroma. Essential Oils are Very concentrated. We're talking lab room work. Tea Tree is a good medicinal to keep on the shelf, as is Clove. IP: Logged |

My guy likes Yarrow, his grandpa taught him how to heal cuts with the leafs. They grow at his home too. So I thought maybe a perfume with yarrow in it would be really special to him. Nothing on Fragrantica. So I search fragrance notes of yarrow, and cheese perfume comes up! haha! IP: Logged |

aw man, I think I'm out of Olive oil. I have almond oil currently, I think I'll add a bit of vitamin E oil to help the shelf life. It's thunder storming out today too, so instead of picking flowers, I think I'll eat some clementines and put the peels in a jar. IP: Logged |

You work with what you've got.Thyme is even better. Oh, man; when I've had a stuffy head cold, just drinking in the steam feels So Good. Either one will become bitter if not ingested immediately, or if steeped too long. Blue Yarrow Essential Oil is very expensive. I think Moon Magick has it by the Dram. IP: Logged |
