If so, how do you do it?

What is your chosen method for managing your emotions?

Lets gather them all here as a reference list.

I have strong reactions to a lot of things even when I know its unnecessary, so sometimes when I'm getting to my tipping point I do what's called "The Tapping Method." You can find videos on it on YouTube. I don't say affirmations or anything and I know its the act of refocusing your attention on something else, but it works without drawing a lot of attention to myself.

Ah yes. I know about this, but I have never tried it. I'll take a look at some videos.

Affirmations have never worked for me - I just argue out loud with myself.

Thank you for sharing Hannaramaa.

Well, the body is one route to the mind, through their connection to each other.
So, soothing the body, for example, releasing tension in the neck and shoulder muscles, can relieve anxiety or anger in the mind.

One of my favorite things is to lie down close my eyes in a quiet comfortable place and if you stare into the darkness long enough in the middle you can start seeing a light, and if you concentrate and look into it it'll lead you almost like you're going through a vortex, to various scenes, much like dream imagery. But they're not imaginative, they just play out like a dream or watching a movie. It's soothing because technically it's the first stage of sleep, forgot what it's called, and the images are so complex and interesting and change so quickly that if you focus only on the image you will literally have zero thoughts in your mind at all. The funny thing is if you start analyzing it'll kick you out of the image and youll have to work to get it back, haha. And of course you wont get the same one! And the scenes change quickly and before I know it I'm either asleep or if I open my eyes my mind is in a completely different spot. It takes practice to hone this one tho, and it wouldn't be easy for those with ADD for example. But if you can focus your mind it's oddly soothing and entertaining. It introduces theta brain waves. And what you're seeing are images from your subconscious.

I guess it helps cos I can tune out everything around and just rest my mind, it's so nice.

Here's a bit I just found,
"3) Theta (4-7.5Hz) – The Light Meditation And Sleeping Wave
Theta brain waves are present during deep meditation and light sleep, including the all-important REM dream state. It is the realm of your subconsciousness and only experienced momentarily as you drift off to sleep from Alpha and wake from deep sleep (from Delta).
It is said that a sense of deep spiritual connection and unity with the universe can be experienced at Theta. Your mind’s most deep-seated programs are at Theta and it is where you experience vivid visualizations, great inspiration, profound creativity and exceptional insight. Unlike your other brain waves, the elusive voice of Theta is a silent voice.
It is at the Alpha-Theta border, from 7Hz to 8Hz, where the optimal range for visualization, mind programming and using the creative power of your mind begins. It’s the mental state which you consciously create your reality. At this frequency, you are conscious of your surroundings however your body is in deep relaxation." http://www.finerminds.com/mind-power/brain-waves/

This is great stuff! I wish mom would do this for herself so she wouldn't put her burdens on me.

BODY comforts, eh?..... some essentials

Nice warm beautiful cozy brown cashmere sweater, or bunting, and a cozy neck scarf made cashmere-soft.

A beautiful crackling fire in a stone hearth, in a cottage-place surrounded by window-walls revealing nature-scene-- the woods, or seashore. Soft rug.

Bologna sandwich, 3 slices of meat, on toasted or plain hardy-white bread, real butter, some mustard, sometimes miraclewhip.

Mug of Hot Cocoa, sometimes with a slug of 'real' canned Evaporated Milk in it (not that 'Filled'-evaporated: oh *cough* just pure-gak!)

Hot Cocoa is the 'real sugar' type-- not that stevia blehkky false-sugar-wannabe crrrap! O YES, You heard that correctly folks: I'm talking about the REAL,.... the Hardcore,... that Processed, uber-refined, white, shugah!!! *o bluddy shrieks and howls heard in the midst of faints from holistic p'nut gallery* Oh quietly, most assuredly... YES, sugar!!

Or, accompanied by a glass of chocolate milk made from whole white cow's milk, with 'quality' chocolate syrup (not powdered; not that bottled prepared-chocolate-milk gooey glocky-stuff that some manufacturers make... o choke-meh).... i'll make my own.

Thin-spaghetti noodles (or Angel Hair noodles) served with real butter (not margarine or prep), topped with a steamed vegetable (or not), and some shredded mild yellow cheddar cheese.

(no packaged-food or canned here)

Homemade real spaghetti meal, tomato sauce, or tomato meat sauce. Shredded mild yellow cheddar cheese. White whole milk.
... Or instead of milk, served with a goblet of white zinfandel wine or other white wines instead (red wine = severe migraine)

Bring on that Champagne....!!
Order self a Bouquet of Flowers, Roses and Mums (er, the flower,... but it can be champagne too! *grin*)

Cute Kitty or Cat videos, (Watched with wearing the cashmere sweater, eating a bologna sandwich, holding a mug of hot cocoa..)

or holding a real kitty that wants to be held.

Eric Whitacre, classical musics (depends), awww.... too many --- I love a lot of the music that's available. Depends on what my soul feels--- get-down brashyrowdy stomp to mystical ethereal. Adagios often a favorite. Samuel Barber. Pachabel Canon D. Christmas cantatas. .... Classical traditional Christmas music and nostalgic memories of carols sung acapella with loving friends long ago.

Oh now, and how could I resist a brrrilliant energizing Julie Andrews pick-me-up song like this!

(music) Favorite Things (Julie Andrews, Sound of Music) [2:34] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dw2VX5wQYQg

(music) Sleep (Eric Whitacre) Lyrics [5:46] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxjWNJU8rNE

Steeping my Heart in the spirit and Beauty of Christmas.

(music) The Secret of Christmas (Ella Fitzgerald) [2:45] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23wclIK7QEw
