Has anyone tried it, or noticed mood/mind improvement with certain smells?

Aromatherapy is a form of alternative medicine that uses plant materials and aromatic plant oils, including essential oils, and other aromatic compounds for the purpose of altering one's mood, cognitive, psychological or physical wellbeing.[1] Aromatherapists, who specialise in the practice of aromatherapy, utilise blends of therapeutic essential oils that can be issued through topical application, massage, inhalation or water immersion to stimulate a desired response. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aromatherapy

Lavender:
The strong aroma has soothing effects on people suffering from stress, anxiety, and mental illness.
-Because of the soothing properties, it has been known to induce sleep making it helpful for treating insomnia and other sleep related issues. Many people who are stressed out use it as a daily sleep aid. http://www.bulkapothecary.com/essential-oils/lavender-oil/
Been getting good whiffs of lavender, been putting it on my bug bites. I think it helps calm down my pms.

Peppermint Oil: quite uplifting. Emotionally, Peppermint Oil is stimulating and is a good choice for inclusion in blends intended to help enhance alertness and stamina. It is considered an aphrodisiac. Peppermint should be avoided before bedtime. http://www.aromaweb.com/essential-oils/peppermint-oil.asp
I've been fine putting it on pillow for sleep. Aphrodisiac? Never heard that before. hmmm.

Rosemary: Rosemary is quite stimulating and is heralded for help in memory retention and staying focused and alert. Rosemary is a good choice for blends for driving long distances and for long study sessions. http://www.aromaweb.com/essential-oils/rosemary-oil.asp

Rose:
Emotionally, Rose Oil is helpful during times of stress. It is considered the choice oil for use during times of grief. I have read comments from those that have Post Traumatic Shock Disorder (PTSD) that it can be helpful for those that suffer from PTSD and varying levels of anxiety. When used in low concentrations, Rose Oil be helpful for insomnia. Rose Oil is considered an aphrodisiac. http://www.aromaweb.com/essential-oils/rose-oil.asp
I have rose water that I spray on my body and face sometimes.

Spikenard:
is highly regarded as a calming, sedative
is often one of regulating the actions of the nervous system and the heart.* The psychological effects pertain mainly to the heart-center and ethereal soul. With its warm and earthy aroma, Spikenard helps sooth the deepest forms of anxiety, and like Myrrh, can instill a profound sense of peace. Spikenard oil is indicated for the individual who, searching for spiritual certainty, struggles in vain to find the stable ground of faith. It is then that the 'release' into spiritual openness may be of great assistance.
Has been traditionally been used for spiritual release http://www.anandaapothecary.com/aromatherapy-essential-oils/spikenard-essential-oil.html
My mom has a spikenard oil infusion.

Smelling is a sense. Though it may be out of focus as compared to some of the other senses, it can very well just as much help sooth, calm, energize, sensualize the body and mind.

The essential oils you've already listed are great ones. I know Rose water is another thing you can incorporate into foods and is also a great skin toner.

Chamomile and Sandalwood essential oils are very calming. I have certain soaps which are infused with these and I find them calming. Chamomile & peppermint herbal teas are also great for this. Good for sleep.

I was having chamomile tea with lavender every night. Peppermint tea sounds good right now. Haven't had it in a very long time.

I recently bought Eucalyptus oil.

"clears mucous from the lungs. It is the most popular essential oil steam for relieving sinus and lung congestion such as asthma. The scent increases brain wave activity and counters physical and mental fatigue. Carry eucalyptus with you on long car trips, or smell it to help you study. International Flavors and Fragrances, Inc., a research and development corporation in New Jersey, found that sniffing eucalyptus increases your energy."
