Thanks for taking the time to answer my question thoroughly and posting all this info! Very informative. There are so many different types of fasting, this type seems very reasonable and healthy!

Did this type of fasting help your mothers cancer as well?

She did have a tendency towards diabetes before which seems to be gone now. She also looks much better and sleeps better (she had difficulty sleeping more than three hours straight for years which doubtless contributed to her developing that cancer, since cell repair processes are most effective during sleep).

@ikja: Glad you found it interesting! I actually thought it was fun to be creative when planning the fasting days: How to have the best possible dining experience with only 500 kcal available…seeing this as a challenge helped make it interesting and fun for this Aries Moon! I have trouble keeping to a dull routine but this seemed more interesting and thus I was able to stick to it.

Thanks Vajra! This feels like a responsibility I can handle, and have definitely been feeling the responsibility thing a lot lately, I have had to become 100% responsible for myself/life in every imaginable way and have also become much more responsible for health of late, practicing what I preach and learning tons. With Saturn transiting the 11th and about to enter the 12th I have also been feeling the loneliness/isolation a lot lately and have been really craving community a lot, which is why I love being a part of LL and really appreciate this space/place. Although it is not as tangible and solid as a real life, in person community I am so grateful for all that it is, and all the great people who come to share in it and offer their insights, perspective and knowledge. Learning about others stories and life helps pull me out of myself so to speak and helps me to not feel so alone.

I've recently started this lifestyle (I don't want to call it a diet because it doesn't feel like one) and I feel great! The weight loss is slow and for once I am okay with that, I am very concerned about loose skin and keeping my boobies as they are lol, because I have about half my weight to lose, so the only way to do that is to lose it slowly and be active. Like Vajra, I came to the conclusion that I must do something about my health and specifically my weight after my Mother's sudden death 6 months ago. I promised myself, and to her spirit, that I would lose the weight but couldn't do so until now. Funny, Saturn had something to do with it in my case too, I was having t-Saturn conj Jupiter when I started and now it's trining my Aries Sun and keeping me going. I am loving my fast days so much that my body instinctively wanted to do alternate day fasting, meaning one normal day and one fast day, which sometimes is a liquid fast (just water and tea). Yesterday I had two soups and didn't feel the need for more. I try not to worry about calories and just listen to my body. What I found until now (I've been doing this for about a month) is an increased mental level - more acuity, improved attention and reaction speed as well as better self control. I have always struggled with food disorders (it's my only addiction, but now it seems like I have it under control) because I have Cancer on the 6th and I never thought I could keep sweets in the house and NOT think about eating them all the time (Taurus Venus here). It's not a problem anymore. It's incredible and I love it!

The only side effects, for now, seem to be insomnia (which as I understand is because of increased energy levels), light headaches if I don't drink enough water and feeling cold during fast days. I find these are pretty manageable though. I feel great about myself, even though progress is slow, the weight loss is not impressive (~3kg/month but it will probably decrease the lighter I become) but I know what I lose is fat and not muscle, as it has been proven it's one of the few diets that preserves lean body mass. I'm working towards being more physically active, I have days when my body simply asks for it, so I do as much as I can. I'm not following a rigid routine as I saw in the past it doesn't work for me long term. One of the main reasons I started doing this was because I wanted to be on better terms with my body, cherish it as best that I can. I haven't gotten to where I wanna be, it's gonna take me about 2 years to have the bod I want (plateau included) but I would say I am on the right path. I find intermittent fasting easy to do, I was doing it before without knowing but the difference was I used to binge when I did eat. Initially, in the first 2 weeks or so, I did binge on my non-fast days, but the weight loss continued and so did I. It took my body about 2-3 weeks to adapt to the regime and now I don't binge anymore. What I love the most about this, aside for improving my brain, is that I am in better control of my appetite. I can't binge even if I wanted to (unless I have alcohol but I rarely drink) and I don't want to! It's amazing. I always felt trapped and like I had no control over my food cravings, now I don't touch food if I don't really want to eat it or I'm truly hungry. Life stopped being about food and it's SO liberating!
