Not sure if any of these info are scientific but I'm going to try it my self and see if it's true
http://www.brahmacarya.info/2013/10/eleven-benefits-of-sexual-abstinence/

Courage/Fearlessness – Fear reduces a lot. It’ll become hard for you to be scared, even of dangerous things. In a dangerous situation, you’ll be aware of the risk but you will also be able to deal with it carefully instead of panicking and worsening the situation. You will start to feel what real masculinity is like.

Better Eyes – Eyesight improves considerably with the practice. And it’s not just the sight that improves but also the endurance of the eyes. You can then spend hours in front of your computer without your vision getting fuzzy and/or your eyes getting tired. In ancient times they used to say that “masturbation causes blindness”. It’s an exaggeration but there is a connection between the two. The floaters around the eyes also reduce or disappear completely.

Blissfulness/Contentment – You will start to feel bliss, which will cause dispassion and distaste for sensual pleasures. Sometimes the bliss is so great that you lose interest in everything around you. To increase this bliss it’s best to practice self-inquiry (hold the I thought-feeling) as taught by Ramana Maharshi. The bliss is similar to the pleasure you get from sexual activity but more refined (subtler). It’s better because it’s continuous, and has an invigorating effect on the body.

Better Memory – You will find it easier to remember things and you will also remember memories which you had long forgotten. Never mind old memories, you will also start to remember dreams which you had a long time ago. The mind will become much sharper.

Better Immunity – The energy reserves of your body are much higher now so the body will find it easier to deal with illnesses. It may happen that illnesses actually increase in the beginning with the practice, probably because of the body healing itself from ailments, but all will be better in time.

Lack of worry – Your worries reduce greatly. You will actually start to find it difficult to worry because you feel perfect or close to perfect. This will give you a sense of security enabling you to deal with difficult situations without worrying.

Intuition/Spontaneous Understanding – The mind becomes incredibly sharp and able to grasp things easily. You’ll start to understand things intuitively without thinking about them. The answers will come to you naturally on their own.

Suppleness – The body will become more supple and flexible. Notice how flexible young children are? They haven’t wasted their vital force as much as adults and so their bodies are strong and supple.

Calmness – An indescribable inner calm develops. You will develop the virtue of patience quite naturally.

Confidence – You’ll develop vigor and confidence. Shyness leaves you and you feel comfortable with yourself. The increased confidence can easily make one conceited so be careful.

Lack of Anger/Irritability – The greater the bliss, the greater the inner peace. The blissful feeling makes it nearly impossible to get angry. Suddenly everything’s fine. Nothing bothers you anymore.

I can attest to the memory thing.. Big time. It also seems to help with energy levels..

I also see it mentioned dreams.

Dreaming becomes much more consistent and vivid.

At least, those have been my experiences.

However, I've never done it extremely long term.. Mainly just periods of a few months or so..

I just skimmed over the article, but it seems to be of more benefit for males?

This article is pure bull. Particularly as the same are cited as benefits for having regular sex in a loving relationship. Anti-depression, an active mind, a robust immune system and more are most commonly cited in scientific articles.

This was written by a yoga/misguided tantra practitioner. Bhramcharya means celibate. There is whole stream of Indian religious thought that equates sex with evil - they took the practice of transmuting sexual energy into spiritual energy a step too far, and became missionary in their zeal. Denounced sex outright. Similar to catholicism - sex only for procreation.

Hmm... The link to the article is gone so can't read it from source but what is the definition of Sexual Abstinence? No sex obviously, but no self-pleasure? Self-pleasure but no ejaculation? Neither self-pleasure nor mental visualization?

I believe it mostly is beneficial for men because when a man loses semen, they are losing a lot of protein, vitamins and minerals in their sperm needed to fertilize the eggs. This is part of the reason why men feel the need to fall asleep after as their body is basically recuperating from all the loss of these important nutrients from their system.

Having said that, as someone who hasn't had sex/rarely ejaculates in over 11 years, the only thing I can truly attest to is the better immunity as I can definitely tell the difference in the past years versus when I was younger and would get sick a lot more.

The rest I would attribute to just being content with oneself and can't really say it's due to sexual abstinence per se.

How interesting? The fact that someone has been celibate for 11 years and is not a priest?

Interesting how the number 11 keeps coming up. 11 benefits, 11 years of abstinence, and this is the 11th post. Maybe I needed to see this number, and, therefore, I happened upon this thread .

I didn't read the article but I think there's misinformation about this subject spread everywhere. The benefits that are erroneously attributed to sexual abstinence in fact are generated by the avoidance of the "peak orgasm" and not to the lack of sex itself. Considering that the massive majority of people have sex to reach that kind of orgasm and can't even imagine sexual activity without that abrupt climax, the whole thing is misinterpreted. In fact, sex mobilizes the kundalini, the primal and vital energy but what creates energy loss is the genital climax. If you have sex, mobilizes that energy and you don't reach the peak orgasm, you build and save a huge amount of energy that can definitely be used to focus on other things in life. The thing is most people who never had any personal experience on that can't even think of having sex without that common type of climax. What they don't know is that tantric sexual practices generate a type of pleasure that's way more intense and lasting. So instead of taking a shortcut through the genitals, the sexual energy built and mobilized in the root chakra will ascend through the spine and flow through the other chakras creating waves of pleasure all over the body. It's very common to have involuntary body movements (similar to a snake moving), due to the spine energy flow. This is one of the reasons why the kundalini (sexual energy) is symbolized by a serpent. I can only talk about my experience. It takes time and practice to reach higher levels of energy ascension and consequently, more intense pleasure but it's worth it, definitely. Sex becomes something regenerative and bonding. I'll leave 2 links here. Alex Vartman is an experienced researcher and professional on that field and he gives a short but clear explanation on that. http://youtu.be/55nblfPyhmQ http://youtu.be/vxMI6XheLpQ

Well, I didn't want to detract the thread but over the 11 years, I can direct and feel my sexual energy in my heart chakra. One of the keys is to learn to relax the perineum and channel the energy through the coccyx near the back of the tailbone and lower spine. I don't find the pelvic kegel exercises to be too beneficial though maybe it is required as initial training but I find the contractions sometimes actually encourage the genital orgasmic response.

And yes, I'm sure I was either a priest or a monk in a recent past life

You're right, SDragon. Kegel exercises end up strengthening all the muscles in the area. Despite they talk about exercises for the PC, this muscle is linked to others and it's almost impossible to not involve them. I think those exercises work better for vaginal loosening or situations involving some sort of urinary or even fecal incontinence. It's interesting what you mentioned about being a priest or a moon in a previous life. I guess I had some sex-spirituality link because having sex based on physical/emotional attraction is almost impossible for me. I need to be spiritually linked to the person. Otherwise, "not interested, thank you", haha!
