I'm wondering if anyone has any information about this? I can't really find anything online, but we have violets growing in our yard, and the flowers are delicious. I've read that the leaves make a nice tea that provides multiple health benefits (or I guess you can eat them raw, but I'd rater not).Does anyone know if these are safe during pregnancy?

I would err on the side of caution. Most harmless herbs are not so for pregnancy. Wait till after the babe is born, and even longer if you breastfeed. IP: Logged |

Thank you! Yes, the flowers are sometimes used in salads (they have a tasty, sweet-ish flavor), as well as the leaves. I would personally imagine that they would be about as dangerous for pregnancy as eating any other edible plant that grows in nature, but I can't find any info on it as far as pregnancy goes. Some plants/herbs are not recommended during pregnancy (like Kava tea, for example, or dandelion root) because they "clear out" the system. Violets are said to have some mild properties along those lines, but I wish I could find more definitive info, as I'm drinking a lot of herbal water now. IP: Logged |

Maybe that "Medical Medium" would know. They have a book out, that I've seen in Barnes and Noble, or you could check their facebook page.I tagged you in a comment, and then deleted it. I don't know if that person knows any more than they could have learned from a google search, but they talk about detoxing and blood purification. IP: Logged |

I saw that you tagged me, and then I couldn't find it, lol. I'll look at Medical Medium, thanks! I've read, here and there, that it has blood purification properties, which is the main reason I'm reluctant to try it while pregnant... Eating the flowers has been fine so far, but I've been drying both leaves and flowers, and I think I'll probably just save it for after I have the baby, to be safe. I'm thankful for all that lemon balm I picked at our old house, because I drink lemon balm tea every day now, as I try to stay hydrated. I dislike plain water, so it's nice to infuse it with a mild herb. Thanks for looking. IP: Logged | |
