First.. i would say that i am not particularly pro-vax. Nor do i think all vax are bad. The risks are well known by govt and manufacturers but screening for contraindications is discouraged and many of the vax are not up to their sales pitches for many reasons. Someone very close to me is one of the "injured" tho he will likely never get any compensation and autism had no relation to his issues. But I think there is a lout of hysteria on both sides and I hate to see a reasonable request.. that more care be taken and more choice allowed.. torpedoed by sensationalism and misinfo on the subject from Randall in the other thread Polio hasn't been eradicated. Both polio and smallpox have made a comeback. Here is a very interesting scholarly article written by two of my law professors: http://scholarship.law.cornell.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1312&context=cjlpp
The article actually makes distinctions you didn't bother with.
Smallpox has reared its head again .. true .. but "as a biological weapon" ie someone got their hands on lab stores and reintroduced it to a population no longer vaccinated for it. Polio WAS eradicated in the US however with air travel creating a global community, the polio that exists in countries not vaxxed can now travel here. And in some countries it never went away. Your contention that it was declining before vax is also ignoring the fact that 1952 was one of the worst seasons ever for polio.. and prompted the public outcry for a vaccine which was introduced two years later and trialled even earlier. The graph here shows the dramatic decline from 55 onward.. previous years, apart from 47, were up and down some but fairly steady overall. Post 1950 the numbers look smaller - because they're divided into two categories not linked into one... http://www.post-polio.org/ir-usa.html IP: Logged |

In general I feel something is wrong with vaccines. But the only concern I have is about that same thing, polio. I was speaking about it with an old woman who cannot walk. I always thought she was born that way, without one of her legs ( she has it but its a very small leg and it doesnt work). But then she told me she was born being completely healthy but she got infected by polio when she was just 2 years old! Since then she have lived her whole life not being able to walk or run. Just because she didn't get that vaccine , because it seems just very few people could get it during the spanish dictatorship ( when she was born) and she wasnt among the lucky ones. So... if I had children I would be a bit worried about not giving them that vaccine because ... polio makes you disable for your whole life. On the other hand... I went to the doctor some weeks ago and I was perfectly ok but he adviced me to have hundred vaccines for I dont know how much sexual illness which for sure I wont get unless I start sleeping with just the whole planet or something without any protection. So makes me freak out that someone advice you to put all this chemicals on your body just without even asking you about your lifestyle or nothing, just as a normal thing he tells to everybody without even looking at them. Or I traveled to places where I was suposed to get vaccines and I didnt and I was ok. I feel all this chemicals are unnecessary and I feel it can indeed be damaging. The vaccines I got as a kid in my school , always gave me fever and made me feel so sick. But I feel maybe some vaccines like the one for polio could make sense. But I dont know if I can trust it because every time I find traditional western medicine more dehumanized and unusefull.

Vaccines never eliminated polio. They just renamed the disease. Like other diseases thought to be eliminated by vaccines, it was already on the sharp decline prior to the introduction of the vaccine. It's now making a comeback as acute flaccid myelitis. And AFM is listed in the vaccine inserts as a side-effect of the flu vaccine and the MMR.IP: Logged |
