I recommend checking out environmental working group.(EWG) It’s a great database for knowing what’s in your products.

Perfume is allowed to just say “fragrance” with out saying what the exact chemicals are.
As much as I love perfumes, this is not okay.

EWG has took matters into their own hands. They have finally tested and added perfumes to their database!

I’ve been waiting for this.

I typed in all of my fragrances to check their ratings.
They don’t have everything yet. Last time I checked they haven’t delved into bath and body works yet.

Check out their site and feel free to share the ratings on your products!

The ratings are from 0-10
0 being the least toxic and 10 rating is the most toxic.

Here are my results from lowest to highest
4 BCBG Max Azria
4 Viva la Juicy
4 Jessica Simpson(I have “Fancy” wasn’t listed but assuming it’s a 4)
4 Jennifer Aniston (her Luxe wasn’t listed this rating is assumption)
6.5 Guess (a lot of brands listed but not 1981 so I estimated)
7 Essence of Beauty Citrus Coconut (cvs brand)
7 Essence of Beauty Sun Blossom
7 Calvin Klein (estimated deep euphoria not listed)
7.5 Britney Spears (estimated how do they not have Curious yet?!)
8.5 Lacoste (estimated for Pour Elle Magnectic)
9 Philosophy Fresh Cream
10 Mariah Carey Licious Pink

I was actually surprised that some of these ratings were under 5! When it comes to shopping I’m happy with any thing 5 and under. Anything 6 or higher I do what I can to keep away.

I get gifted and hand me down fragrances occasionally. Since 2012 if it’s my money I’m going for essential oil based or making my own. As someone who tries not to cope with stress and getting overwhelmed with smoking. I realize it’s more beneficial for me to smell scents that will benefit me mentally and emotionally. The only frances I bought that are listed were Mariah Carey and Viva la Juicy!

I grabbed some essential oil based perfumes with a target gift cards last month. But seeing if they have ratings will have to be saved for another day. I must study for an exam.

They ones I have ratings for I did at the beginning of January and saved them to my phone so I can stay aware.

Agree.

AS a side-issue here--
(thanks for having provided the info on 'toxicity' of chemicals in scents we purchase.)
I absolutely love certain perfumes, and I miss being able to afford these.

Some of the Fragrance/essential oil businesses??
These are 'trends' .. and people using these are involved in pyramid-type money making schemes.

Not every fragrance is pleasant (or healthy) to ALL.

Ugh... I remember a few years ago, going for a blood test in a lab once, where they "used" fragrances that were "supposed" to be health-supporting and soothing???

omg!! It was absolutely GROSS!! LOL Could barely stand being in there.

I felt sorry for people who had to go to work in that truly-offensive STINKY atmosphere!!

Some of the scents they choose for baby-atmospheres too???? yuck

Poor babies!!

I think scents are VERY personal.
They go straight into the 'reptilian' part of the human brain.
(I'm not talking about aliens with that comment.. *grin*)

Omg pyramid schemes!
I went to one of those essential oil parties one time.
I had a nice time eating the peppermint oil brownies and sipping the lavender lemonade.

The party is nice for ordering oils that the stores don’t have, like Angelica oil. (I mean yes I stopped being stubborn about shopping online.)

But yes! Why would I buy oils from ones scheme when even the drug stores sell essential oils now.
Any schemer telling me their brand is better than the ones in the store...I am literally not buying it!

I cannot stand MLM anymore. They are so twisted. People who were mean to you in high school inviting you to their “party”
People not taking it well when I don’t want a “free make over” when I am just trying to chill.
Random people friending me on FB messaging me and then telling me they want to sell me stuff.

The worst MLM party I’ve been to my friend was having “a spa party” red flag: invite said bring a friend. No one that cares about their house wants random people over.
I was the only one who showed up to party everyone else bailed. The lady hosting was more interested in getting my friend and I to be sellers than us buying her products.
This party was an epic fail for hostess she totally gave up and didn’t even bother to give me a catalog. I would of bought SOMETHING.

Omg a friend of mine is selling happy coffee. Red flag she passes out samples to our group. No one likes something that much that they give samples expecting nothing in return.
“This coffee makes me feel so happy, and I don’t want to eat anything all day” that does not sound healthy. No thanks!
I was honest with her about not being interested.

Going to see her tonight I’ll find out if she is still in the cult.

I love fragrances. Many of mine are gifts and hand me downs from people.

I sometimes dabble in scent making bought perfume bottles a while back.

I’m going to bottle up some jasmine, vanilla and bergamot soon

My Virgo stellulum boyfriend does not wear cologne never, not even special occasions.

I find it strange that he doesn’t buy into it, but am also kind of glad.

Stawr… Thanks, you made me laugh! *grin*

So many of the get-togethers locally, are business card swaps too. The last one I went to (decades ago), I felt like prey!! LOL

Whatever happened to genuine parties and get-togethers that were "honestly" about socializing? ..
IF the people you talk with are interested in asking, 'then' you can give them a card about your product or services? LOL

As far as scents are concern ..

I LOVE Beautiful scents. Making an investment in real high-quality fine perfume was the first-thing that got chopped from my buying-list when my income was affected, and I needed to tighten the finances. I miss it very much..

The men in my family and extendeds, ALWAYS wore really nice cologne on Sundays. It was such HEAVEN to me!!

When I was married, I insisted on my own husband doing the same-- wearing high-quality cologne every Sunday (maybe even on-occasion, just for me).
