This isn't the same idea as the other thread I created about remedies ~

Any that you like and reasons you may or may not have known why you were attracted to them? Any fragrances, incense, candles or perfumes that you may have happened on purely by mistake? 🌿✳🌸✳🌿

~ In my case I most always found perfumes, soaps and any fragrance I was drawn to that contained Ylang Ylang .. It was odd how most every time, this rather mysterious fragrance was always an attraction for me. Recently I heard a vlogger say Ylang Ylang was once said to attract fairies. Maybe , I unaware wanted go bring Fairies near to me.

I once made a batch of salve using bear fat instead of my usual olive oil, and had to add as much fragrant stuff as possible to cover the funk. Happened upon a wonderful combination purely by accident: lavender, fennel and cinnamon (all of which are okay-not-great individually, IMO).

Bergamot. I also have this kind of experience, a desire to become aware of the meaning hidden within a (usually lifelong) longing for a particular scent.

I have others but will need to remember their names 🤍 half the battle ain’t it?

A few tree gums

Individually lavender, peppermint, frankincense, myrrh, and patchouli (somewhat, think it's a bit overrated), but I'm not exactly sure why.

I like a combo of clove, orange, cinnamon, and/or nutmeg and/or cardamon and/or ginger. Reminds me a bit of pumpkin pie (minus the orange) and that shite is delicious. (I like it so much that sometimes I just make a pudding/pie filling only version with coconut milk, a little coconut sugar mixed with erythritol and monk fruit blend, and tapioca starch).

Cardamom!!! Whole pods in berry pies that surprise you when you bite down on them by accident.

Don't think I've had that experience. I usually get the pre made, blended p.p. spice that is pretty finely ground up.

But you make it sound like I'm missing out.

It's weird, but these individually are more "bass" than I typically like/gravitate to, but something about the combo.

Ever been to an Indian restaurant where they put whole cardamom pods in the rice while it’s steaming? You’re supposed to pick them out, like a bay leaf or something. I’ve even got an old recipe for cardamom cookies around here somewhere... haven’t done that in a while.

I used to eat a fair amount of Indian food back in the day (till we discovered Ethiopian and it usurped Indian foods prominence in my life..), so quite likely I have, but probably didn't know what it was.

My mom has fragrance oil of Lily of the Valley. She also has the flowers bloom on her property. I love the season of spring and those bitsy flowers that bloom.

"The lily of the valley is a flower that is most often viewed as a symbol of rebirth and humility. It can be used to symbolize chastity, purity, sweetness, and motherhood, too. Lily of the valley flowers are thought to bring luck in love but can also symbolize a return of happiness."

Do you ever embark on journeys only with the smell of a certain scent?...

I adore warm, rich, sensual oriental scents. My perfume is such, carrying a deep and intense rose scent...

That although I'm wearing it for so many years, no one has ever understood that there is a rose underneath hiding...

I am liking the smell of incense for many reasons. I cannot help but connect it to the subculture lifestyle. That I sometimes crave and get nostalgic for. I get memories of the local video game store, shopping at Spencer's, or new-agey tourist shops.

Uranus is one of my most dominant planets so the scent of incense makes me feel like I am in tune with my non-conformist, hippy punk subculture side.
It shows, I am taking time to work on the vibes in my environment.

PLUS whenever my dad smells incense he freaks out, it's hilarious, as soon as he smells it, he is like "What are you doing in here?!"
I think it's the combo of going to Catholic school his whole life and being a kid and teen in the 60's and 70's.

Hi Moon Mystic!! Thanks for starting this thread. I could talk all day about good smells and scents. They are my lifeblood.

Interesting you mention Ylang Ylang. I very recently became attracted to this scent. I make a water spray with it for the summertime. It makes me think of the jungle in the rain. Sometimes I put a few drops in the bath with Patchouli, my other favorite. I typically keep these scents separate and wear each of them alone, because they're both potent and have their own unique statement.

The book "Jitterbug Perfume" made me want to try making the Patchouli, Jasmine, Citron perfume, but I haven't found the right citrus scent yet.
I normally prefer Jasmine in cold tea in the summer as well. I used to wear it more as a solo scent, but now I prefer it in a blend.

I've lately been trying out this perfume brand called Phlur. I get their sample pack because they're otherwise pricey and I haven't decided on a "signature" scent for myself. My favorite so far are based in spice and musk or forest moss. They smell absolutely divine.
They even have a scent that has a particular kind of algae or moss in it that I smelled at a particular river in my childhood. It was so magical at the time and I could never identify what that smell was back then. It was even hard to capture it for long because I would just suddenly receive hints of it. And now, years later, I've finally identified the scent and have it captured in a tiny bottle! Now that's magic..

I would love to make my own perfumes, but I haven't studied the art of perfumery. One day I will...
Scent is definitely a staple in my life and I can't imagine life without it.

^^ off-topic: That was a great book... I was just debating whether to donate or keep my Tom Robbins books, and now I’m thinking I’d better keep them.
On-topic: I’ve been burning sweetgrass as incense lately — I’ll usually rotate between that and sage and nag champa.

It was so great, Chanterelle!
I definitely eat beets a lot more now.

Also I love incense too, but have realized I have allergic reactions to most types so I have to use ones made with only pure ingredients. I burn Palo Santo and Sage a lot.

@Chanterlle ~
   bearfat, now that's  not one I expected. lol
Cinnamon is lovely anytime tho. Cardamon, yes! So agree.

 @vansio ~
   Bergamot is nice. Love it. Yes, there's a huge list of pretty frangrant and useful ones too.

  @Justin, I miss making homemade p.Pies too. they are lovely indeed.

@Stawr ~ Inthink my mom way back wore a fragrance with Lily of the valley.  Maybe it was Jovan? I do not recall.
  - Incence are amazing. I agree.
Ahhhh yes Spencer's was so fun. They were the marker for many things in my timeline too. (me too re Uranus with Venus just before.) :laugh: my mither hates incense.

@Eternal Energy ~
Oriental spicey fragrances  are def favorites for me. Idk maybe I was an islands  person off the Pacific in my pastlifetime.

@Snake Lady ~
  It's  lighter than some scents. Your water spray sound devine. Like a hint. Patchoupi, another Fae favorite.
Oh jasmine too. Yes! You should have a boutique.  I think you must be Water/Earth in your elements?  Or like me, you just love the elemental beings? ☺ Let me know if you ever start a shoppe. I'll def be interested.

That sounds pretty and makes me feel like it might be like carrying the sea fragrance along. Enchanting and fresh.

MoonMystic, yes I am a water sign, Cancer sun and moon, and I have a Capricorn stellium in the 11th. AND I love the elementals.
I've always dreamed of having a shoppe including herbal tonics. Maybe I can make the tonics from Star Signs since the company from the book seems to be out of business. I love doing scents for the signs as well.
I'll definitely let you know when I've started on those! I recently made friends with a local herb farmer and there may be a chance the herbs can all be grown locally. I'll have to discuss with her.

Thanks for the encouragement!
