80% of DEATHS happen in age group over 65;
I think I heard they now include warnings
if you are 50 years old and up.
If your parents are Elderly (or over 50yrs) then they WOULD be especially concerned for maintaining their life by seeking to be vaccinated now more than ever.
Some States
Since governors of some States threw away safety protocols for the general public, if you live or travel to *their* States, you very well MAY become unknowingly Infected. These places are filthy cesspools. The authorities there like to 'hide' (disguise) health statistics from public knowledge.
.. If you are immune-compromised, or Elderly, and not vaccinated, a visit to those regions put you at higher risk of illness or death should you choose (or be wedged) to have to be there.
.. A few weeks ago I heard of a couple that came to the Disney Attractions (FL) to attend a business meeting {they did business with them}. They were clean of infection when they entered the State, and when they got home the COVID had infected their body.
The passport programs would give Peace of mind, and ability to lower stress among people who have worked together (in cooperation) to stop/severely-Limit the infection from making people sick.
The other thing (besides lack of understanding, lack of knowledge) that has been PROLONGING our attempts to get control over number of infections has been 'lack of self-control' and impulse-driven individuals who throw away caution .. and infect themselves and others. -- This means a RESET is needed for the whole population. They cause SET-Backs in the progress that MOST people worked HARD (with self-control) to achieve.

When you get too many people not cooperating, it does harm to the WHOLE effort, and PROLONGS the amount of Time to make it safe for everyone again.

The PANDEMIC
This is a "novel" virus, meaning that the medical-scientific world had never seen this before. They had no idea 'how' it would behave. They had to keep observing its spread, its effects among the people.
EXPERIMENTAL
Yes, using this has been issued under an emergency authorization. Too many people getting sick and DYING. Hospitals were OVERWHELMED.

The virus could make someone deathly ill in hours of contracting it.
To develop the vaccine and ascertain its safe uses, takes DECADES to develop. -- It "just-happened" that a certain bio-lab had been working on the use of Genes, of binding receptors with the use of splitting RNA and DNA. They had had some experimental successes and dry-runs of a pandemic scenario.
.. So as the story goes, one day the scientists arrived at the lab, and told them they needed another experiment run on a novel virus-- but this time, it was not-a-drill. This was now REAL. Killing hundreds of thousands, and spreading exponentially.
The Lab people went to work on their RNA binders idea on a sample of the live-virus. Within 9 months, they HAD a product that they believed 'worked'.
They did trials on human volunteers.
Soon it was released as an Emergency measure to control the rate that this infection was causing the medical system to be flooded and overwhelmed with people DYING. They had to set-up outdoor tent-hospitals, and use refrigerated trailers in their parking lots to store dead corpses like piles of logs in the trucks. Too many dead.
The vaccine was released.
The infections began to lower as people cooperated with the plan of the Experts.
I understand being afraid. My body reacts to even the flu shots I've received. Thing is, if your body infection control is compromised in the ways listed by the science-doctors, you die as a result of getting this germ.
If you don't care to extend your life,
then it's easier to decide to 'go with the flow'-- if you die, you die.
But if you deeply WANT to live, you have to weigh the risks.
The more people get vaccinated, the easier it is for those who 'cannot' be. For medical reasons, some cannot take the shot.
I have had BOTH doses of the Pfizer now.
Had some 'inconvenient' side effects show up.
I'm still experiencing being wiped-out tired! ~oy
I'm in the category of people over 65 years old.
For me, I am glad to have been vaccinated and to continue to wear my mask, wash my hands, practice social distancing, because I feel it is 'protecting Others' whom perhaps ARE compromised.
Some of your fears, are from deliberately spread 'misinformation'. Some people have agendas (to harm others) for whatever hidden reason in their heart.
Look at how many people have taken the vaccine and had no adverse effects.
Be understanding of your older parents/grandparents/Loved Ones.
They have MORE risk if they get infected.
They are more-likely to die of the infection.
It's up to you-- if you are in live contact with them, you might want to decide to do it for *them* (so they don't get sick of this especially-lethal germ).

Yeah, we 'all' have things to fear about when it comes to events we see play out in this world.
IDEA
If your parents/loved ones were to die,
what would you have wanted to tell them--
what would you have wanted them to know?
Plan to have some conversations with them (if you would want to have had those discussions before they Pass). It's good to have had weights lifted from your soul before dying.
