Have you ever felt discriminated against? Felt that someone has disrespected your sexual orientation, your race, your religious views, your gender, you age, etc. etc?

Talk about it...

I have felt discriminated against because of my religious beliefs.

Also, discrimination for being a female.

I think one's inner landscape creates one's outer landscape.
I speak as a work in progress not as any kind of authority.
When one knows oneself, one can walk through discrimination with a fair amount of equanimity.
Getting to knowing yourself is the hard part which takes hard knocks,VERY hard knocks.

I don't see how you could be discriminated against for your religion; you're in the majority. In prior times, Christians truly suffered for their beliefs, but today, it is usually Christians who discriminate against other belief systems. I've definitely been discriminated against for not being Christian.

Well, I have been. Regardless of being a "majority". Minority and Majority has nothing to do with anything, at all.

Ditto. I think it can take real courage to swim against the tide and admit you do not agree with the mainstream. Religion aside, I was discriminated against for the way I looked, the clothes I wore, the music I listened to. I run into these 'haterz' now and then, and it's funny how cool they seem to think I am these days...

Yes, by both men and women alike.

They think I am weak because when debating, I don`t try to come out on top. I shake the dust so to speak.

I am secure with who I am, my beliefs and Faith. The driven need to be right, prove anything or be the top dog isn`t part of my values. So, discriminated against as weak by their need to be otherwise.

Are you sure it was because you're Christian? The reason I ask is that just about everyone professes to be a Christian in this country, so it would be a stretch for them to discriminate against their own. But discrimination in any form is evil. Being in rental real estate, it is actually a crime, but I see it all the time. I see ads in the local paper that say, "No kids." That's illegal! The paper is liable for publishing it.

Not to mention, once people find out you're a Christian, you get lumped in together with an enormous group of different people...

People stop seeing you as an individual. You are constantly either compared or contrasted to other Christians, who may or may not be anything like you.

That is true of any Faith. Think of the Muslems.

Yeah, they're pretty unpopular, right now, in a couple of different countries.

What's so sad too, is that people who have experienced discrimination - go on to discriminate!

So frustrating.

I can't tell you how many people nowadays still harbor resentments towards different race, sexual preference, religion, etc etc.

Just makes you wonder how much progress we've made, if we made any, at all.

I was thinking of the free speech issue. We must have free speech to have a free country.
On a smaller scale, we must have free speech to have a real community.

I joined a Board where the moderation was so extreme that you could not say any kind criticism to each other.

I left after a short time cuz it felt like authoritarian rule.

Free speech opens one to discrimination cuz there IS discrimination within people.
The ONLY way to handle it is to find and know your own core.

I agree with the free speech thing. I wouldn't want it to change, here.

I have not FELT discrimination for being a Christian or a woman.
I have GOTTEN discrimination by comments and tones for being a Christian but it does not effect me very much.
The same goes for being a woman or Jewish person.
I feel the problem lies with the other person.
I cannot say it does not effect me at all cuz it does some, but not excessively.

Sadly, yes I believe it is.Is it the nature of the human being.

As long as we are unique in having our own belief systems et al, we will discriminate in some form or another.

All fall short of the Glory of God.

I'm discriminated all the time for my hair. I got pulled over, and every cop in that small town stopped by. But no worries--by the time I was done with them, they got a true education on the law...and maybe they learned something.
