The efforts of the US in Iraq are often criticized, but there has been some good from it. Women used to have to attend underground and hidden schools, because it was illegal, but soon after the occupation, they were able to attend public schools with men. Keeping women subjugated by preventing them an education was appalling. IP: Logged |

i do not believe that "education" was illegal for women in Iraq, probably same sex schools were most popular and a lot of woman were prevented by family from attending schools, but i dont think it was ever forbidden..now as for the American efforts, its realy a double edged sword, from one point people need to govern themselves, and on another side iraqis could benefit culturaly and thus from the american influence.. as a similar story, when the french were in Lebanon they helped boost the educational system and the over all living standard but there was a time when they just had to leave and let the lebanese take charge of themselves (a myth to this very date).. A theme in this week's Touch was an Iraqi woman who wanted to go to college. Great show.------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca Clark IP: Logged |

That show is one of most heart-touching and well-written on tv.------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca Clark IP: Logged |

Weigh this against how many innocent women and children US forces have killed? And why are we there, anyway? Resources and geopolitical strategy. It is nothing more noble than that. IP: Logged |

Education seems to be opening up and so many more are now attending schools.------------------ We need to listen to our own song, and share it with others, but not force it on them. Our songs are different. They should be in harmony with each other. ~ Mattie Stepanek IP: Logged |
