There's a book by this name, actually Cynara Erotica. Cynara is the Genus name for the artichoke.

Why Sensous? There is a myth that Zeus was captivated by the most voluptuous and sensual mortal ever encountered, her name Cynara. But he could not convince her to be interested in him. She agreed only if he made her into a Goddess. He did so and brought her to Mt. Olympus in Hera's absence. Their night together was an experience of ectasy and eternity unimagined. But Cynara missed her home and decided to return to Earth against the wishes of Zeus. Because of her rebelliousness and defiance Zeus struck her with his thunderbolt turning her into an artichoke.. The beautiful heart shape with intimidating thorns. Food of the Gods.

The artichoke has the chemical Cynarin, which makes taste buds perceive sweetness after you eat it. Try this, eat an artichoke, then drink a glass of water and it will taste sweet. It sweetens your food in recipes. I like using it in pasta sauce, especially with canned tomatoes that are bitter.

For a quick meal serve over a thick pasta:
Canned plum tomatoes lightly pulsed in the blender
Frozen artichoke hearts (you can cut them in smaller pieces if you want)
Splash of wine, Clove of garlic
Bring to a boil in a pan, not a pot, for a minute or two cook the alcohol off and reduce so it thickens
Add olive oil, salt, pepper, simmer a few more minutes
Turn off heat and stir in fresh basil
Serve over pasta with grated cheese

Ach, that sounds Divine!

We used to live across the street from an artichoke field, there was this french-fried artichoke place down the highway that smelled SO good as you drove by. It had this great big artichoke outside the doors.

Yeah, basil kind of loses it if it gets cooked...

I did not find an asteroid. Ha, I wanted to look one up right away because I love artichokes. I did a google search, not astrodienst search, though.
Maybe there is another name for her.

Artichoke is a thistle. Or supposedly from the astor family. Im not sure how it is classified. It's actually a flower that we eat. Did you ever see the flower in full bloom?

I will have to learn how to post images. It's a beautiful flower in full bloom.

Yeah, they weren't real big on letting them go. But; yes, I have seen them go to flower.

They certainly thrive in the Foghorn Belt, but I have seen them grow in other places as well.

FYI, there is a wonderful artichoke tea by Herbacil made from the leaves and fruit (I guess that's the heart) that tastes so good. It's from Mexico, Te de Alcachofa, so you can find it in the ethnic section of the supermarket or at specialty stores.
