So, what's the difference between ginger beer and ginger ale? I wonder if its the same difference between regular beer and ale?

I was gifted a bottle of Jamaican Ginger Beer and its not alcoholic. Very strong ginger taste. The soft drinks are not alcoholic, but they are labeled both Ginger Beer and Ginger Ale. I wondered what the difference.

Is the actual Ginger Beer brewed with yeast and does it have alcohol?
