I read an article on Sasstrology mentioning our 2nd house is how we basically flirt or attract a partner, so going off that is the 8th house how a potential partner would attract US?

That sounds quite oversimplified. Could you link the article?

2H is our values, talents, and what we value. Our stuff. Possessions, and our attitude towards them. The 8H, obviously, is OTHERS' possessions, and our attitude towards them.

I can't say that the 2H is sexualised, though.

I agree with you, Indigo, but on the last bit... I do think the 2nd house is highly sexualized, especially for women.

The 2nd house is the house of Taurus, after all, and Venus related. It is linked to sensuality, touch, the senses... I actually get turned on just thinking about it.

It's also related to the mouth, throat, neck... all very sensual and sexual areas of the body.

I have Ceres in my 2nd house, and what this means for me, personally, is that I need Taurus type sensuality to feel valued, nurtured, wanted, desired. Touching my face, holding my face in your hands, kissing my neck, and long, slow lingering kisses... those things must happen before I even want to have sex. Give me those things, though... and you've got me.

So, I think the 2nd house represents what we need in order to even want to go to the 8th house.

In a nutshell, I think the 2nd house is the foreplay house.

Speaking in generalities, this is especially true for we females, because we generally have to feel wanted and valued before we desire sex.

I remember that article. I think Nadia Gilchrist is the author. I read her articles regularly. She is very concise & will respond to queries in the comments as long as they aren't convoluted. After all, the woman has to make a living through her astrological readings. Weirdly enough, many of the articles she has published pertain to my specific synastry with Manfriend & they most definitely have resonated with me.

Sex starts in the morning. You treat her like a queen all day and get treated like a king at night.
Or in some cases literally starts in the morning...
I always wondered about Libra risings like myself with our house/signs flip flopped.
Is it just like chocolate milk or something? House and sign just all mixed up... lol

I can see how 2H can be sensual. I can't give a clear idea on this as my Mars is in Taurus & a major factor in natal. I DO know Manfriend's loaded 8H overlays my heavily populated 2H & it is very sensual.

This actually came from the '5th/11th Axis in relationships' thread but that turned into a discussion on the 2nd/8th as well....

In a way, the 2nd house shows what it is about ourselves that we feel is marketable. The 2nd house shows what we feel have to offer others that is of worth and value. This includes how we feel we are able to contribute in a relationship. Conversely, the 8th house shows how we'd like our partner to contribute to the relationship, and the kind of intimacy and support we desire from them.

If we're interested in someone we may emphasize our 2nd house characteristics in some way so that the other person knows what they could be in for if they choose us. This could be done with flirting but not necessarily. It could also just as easily be done in a serious conversation. When we are considering entering into allegiance with another person, and it's time put all the cards on the table, our 2nd house is likely to be the hand that we show as a kind of bargaining chip.

Even romantic relationships have that phase in the beginning where two people get together and hash out what the expectations of each other are. Yes, people tend to 'market' themselves romantically as well as in a business sense. The 2nd house shows what it is about ourselves that we are likely to express to a potential partner when it comes to 'marketing' our relationship viability. Capricorn on the 2nd would 'market' their loyalty and accomplishments. Libra on the 2nd would 'market' how pleasant, easygoing, and fair-minded they are. Gemini on the 2nd house might 'market' how interesting they are, and mention their intellectual and communicative skills. And so on through the zodiac.

The 5th house has a flirty connotation to it as well. It shows how we are inspired to demonstrate passionate feelings of admiration and adoration to others. It's meant to be the house of falling in love. The 2nd house shows how we market ourselves with a pragmatic sort of attitude, in a "This is what I've got to contribute" sort of way. The 2nd house is an Earthy house. Where as the 5th house is all about displaying how someone or something inspires and excites us. The 5th house is a Fire house, and is more about gushing forth about our enthusiasms. 5th house flirting would be just about showing someone else how we feel about them. 2nd house flirting would have a calculated side to it... We might deliberately hint at things about ourselves that we want a partner to know about so that they understand our value, and what the benefits of being with us are.

***

With the 2nd/8th houses we have the Axis of 'I Have' Vs 'I Desire'. The 2nd house shows what we feel gives us worth, in terms of having something to bargain with. We tend to see the symbolism of our 2nd house as like a personal bargaining chip. The 2nd house shows what we feel we have to offer others in exchange for what we desire. That which we desire in exchange for what we have is symbolized by the 8th house.

This concept gets interesting when it comes to relationship astrology. The 8th house shows the type of private intimacy we wish to get from our partner. The 2nd house shows what we feel we have to offer our partner in exchange. In a way, the 2nd house/8th house Axis is another give/receive Axis but instead of being on the courtship (fun side of the relationship) level, it’s on a deeper more committed level. How people to contribute within the context of an already established connection.

The major relationship Axis are the 1st/7th, 5th/11th, and 2nd/8th

Okay so a while ago I participated in a thread where I discussed the theory that we attract the energy of our 1st , 2nd and 11th houses, and are attracted to the 5th, 7th and 8th houses.

I’ll repost the bulk of what I wrote here to clarify.

***

Okay so the theory is that we are attracted to our 5th, 7th, and 8th houses astrologically… These houses are in the ‘other’ hemisphere of the chart and show the traits we are drawn to in others (this is in a relationship context, of course sometimes we ourselves will use and express our own 5th, 7th, and 8th houses)…

So if we want to look at the opposite of 5th, 7th, and 8th houses, we have… The 1st, 2nd, and 11th houses. These houses symbolize both what we have and attract. The 5th, 7th and 8th houses may show what attracts us to others, but the 1st, 2nd, and 11th houses, show where we ourselves are magnetic, and pull in the energy and attention of others.

The 2nd house is ruled by Venus traditionally and is actually quite a magnetic house. It shows what we feel have of value to offer others in relationships (the 8th house shows what we want others to offer us). The 2nd house is symbolically our contribution, and commodities of worth, that we are able to bring to the table for others in both a business and personal context. These need not necessarily be ’things’ although they sometimes are. The 2nd house shows how we go about attracting what we need from others, and how we express what it is about us that is a worthwhile investment… It also shows how we attract in a very basic earthy sense… Like honey to the bee. When we attract the sign on our 2nd house they tend to see us as valuable and physically appealing.

The 11th house is the house of social popularity, and love received. It shows what it is about ourselves that we feel makes us appealing on a social level (or not if the chart has afflictions involving the 11th house), and our social self-esteem. It also shows what types of behaviors make us feel accepted, appreciated, and wanted by others (check the 11th house by sign, ruler and planets). The 5th house is what we fall in love with and our inspired reaction to our love object…. Our performance… The 11th house is the reception we desire in response to our passionate self-expression… Our audience… By sign, ruler, and planets the 11th house can show what type of people we attract as ’fans’ and admirers like personal ‘groupies‘ (the 5th house is who we admire). You know, the type of people in general who think that we are awesome. When we attract people from our 11th house they tend to make us feel special for the unique person that we are.

The 1st house is where we wear a banner that says ‘This is how I am, take it or leave it! People who share the energy of our 1st house allow us to be authentically ourselves, and there is often a mutual attraction due to similarity. We attract the energy of our 1st house in general because we are able to identify with them and understand where they are coming form… It’s a very strong pull and is not necessarily romantic (unless other factors show it is so), but the attraction is very strong when it is. When we attract the energy of our 1st house they tend to make us feel validated in our point of view on the world, and they ‘get’ us. They also very much appreciate how we, in turn, seem to ‘get’ them.

I’ve noticed that when we attract the 2nd and the 11th houses, in particular, there is often an unrequited love type scenario… unless the 2nd and the 11th houses are also somehow tied to the 5th, 7th, or 8th houses in our chart. When people influencing our 1st, 2nd and 11th houses are drawn to us, they are usually attracted because they see us as wonderful in one way or another (the specifics of this will show in the details of their natal chart). This is whether or not we actually want their attention.

I’ve really noticed this with the 11th house. It’s like I was fated to be loved by people with this type of energy, whether I want it or not. My 11th house is Libra with Pluto and Uranus in the 11th house, and Venus in Sagittarius in the 1st house ruling the 11th house. Libra/Scorpio/Sag/Aquarius/Aries combos seem to dig me. My 2nd house is Capricorn, and there were a couple of Caps in high school that liked me, but I never was interested (although, I’m a Cap myself).

However...

Romantically, what we are naturally attracted to is the 5th, 7th and 8th houses. So… When people influencing our 5th, 7th, and 8th houses are drawn to us, they are often attracted because they are aware we think THEY are wonderful for some reason or another (the motivation is different depending on the houses they activate). They kind of bask in the light of our adoration sort of thing.

Simplified: synastry in our 1st, 2nd and 11th houses makes us feel wanted by the other person…. While synastry in our 5th, 7th and 8th houses makes us want the other person (usually, after all synastry is a complex topic).

Mutual attraction tends to happen we both people influence each others 5th, 7th, and 8th houses. And there’s a variety of ways for this to happen... Even if the other person actually only has planets in your natal 1st, 2nd or 11th houses.

Like... They can strongly aspect the rulers of the 5th, 7th, and 8th houses. Or have signs prominent in their chart associated with our 5th, 7th, or 8th houses. For example, if we a have Pluto in the 7th house they could have a bunch of Scorpio influences. Or if our 7th house ruler is in Leo, they could have Sun conjunct the Asc, or a Leo Sun or Moon. This sort of thing.

So going back to the 2nd/8th houses… We're attracted to our 8th house, and attract/magnetize with our 2nd rather then vice versa.

If a person has Taurus on the 5th, 7th, or 8th houses, however, They may very well be attracted to the energy of their 2nd house (because of secondary houses). Taurus rules the 2nd house, so if we have the sign Taurus on a 'romantic' house cusp, then the 2nd house becomes more attractive/Romantic for us.

I think it's the same for the 11th and the 1st houses too in this regard (or any house really). Having Aquarius on the 5th, 7th, or 8th house, would cause an attraction to 11th house synastry. And having Aries on the 5th, 7th or 8th house would cause an attraction to 1st house synastry.

Huh. How strange. I wonder what's 'overriding' mine. I've always been quite asexual.

I agree with everything except the 2H Libra expression. I wouldn't say I really emphasise any particular set of traits to be 'attractive'. I wonder why.

My VENUS is 12H, VIRGO, but I don't think that's it.

Well if Libra is on the 2nd the theory is that you'd emphasize Libra-ish characteristics, qualities and abilities in order to attract. If Venus is in Virgo in the 12th this would modify the expression of your 2nd house. You might also want to indicate how helpful, organized, health conscious, discriminating, or modest you can be. With Venus in the 12th you might also want to hint to a potential partner that you have a rich inner world of feelings and imagination inside of you.

The 12th house also has to do with that which is hidden or barely conscious... Perhaps when you do act in certain ways to attract it doesn't distinctly register inside in your mind that this was your intent. Kind of like being on automatic-pilot or something. These are just guesses based on your chart.

Interesting. I have a Libra 2nd house and I doubt I'd feel like going at it when angry or hurt because of the guy. I'd probably need sincere apologies (now kneel and beg for forgivenes ^^ haha) and some lovey-dovey s.hit first to have a chance to get in the mood. I have Moon-Ceres in Libra though. Maybe the quincunx to Mars has something to do with it too.

Well, personally I would think this is it.

I don´t put too much stock into the signs at the cusps, they are there to point you into the direction of the rulers mostly.
Well they do play a role but have to be seen in tight combination with its ruler.

libra on 2nd house cusp with Venus in Virgo in 12th will have a different vibe than libra on 2nd house cusp with Venus in Leo in 11th for example.

Also, if you have planets in Scorpio in 2nd house, these may override the Libran influence or modify it clearly.

I think the summary of the article is this:

It’s a targeted, solution oriented approach that breaks your relationship potential down into the following areas:

2nd House (how you pursue those you are attracted to)
7th House (your ideal partner/relationship)
8th House (who you attract without even trying)
12th House (your soul mate)

Just to play devil's advocate - Jan Spiller noted the 8th house was the soul mate house? I, personally, like the idea of the 12th house being a soul mate house but I'm wondering how the two differ, or if they can both be soul mate houses?

I'll post this here as well, from the 5th/11th thread:

I've been thinking about the Fixed Love Cross, specifically about defining the sexual axis: 2nd/8th.

I'm not sure the 2nd house is a place where we offer. "I have" means, in a way, "I take" and, in another way, "I enjoy" - in an earthy, hedonistic, rather egotistical way - Taurus as an earthy sensual sign enjoying anonymous pure pleasure for the sake of it. In order to offer, we have to go to the 8th house.

I hope it's not a problem to post it here, I'm not sure how PG the forum is lol
I'm inclined to define the sexual axis as:

2nd
- our basic physical needs in sex, basic approach and sensuality, our body as a sexual object, for ourselves and the others (it was, in a way, defined as the house of...well pleasuring oneself), our libido

- physical preferences when it comes to sex, perhaps some erogenous zones, perhaps some clues on our body type

- the tangible sexual allure of our body, our "assets", our "talents" when it comes to sex lol

- it's probably active in a simple affair where our sole purpose is physical pleasure

- our sexual set of values

- what we have to offer in the most physical sense (such as basic behavior in a random sexual encounter focused on selfish lol or mutual pleasure)

- what gives us satisfaction, makes us feel appreciated in a tangible physical way, makes us feel desired

- I think it is safe to say people with placements here are physically attracted to us, very attracted to our body/body type and all in a physical way, want to touch us all the times, this is also a good placement for physical sexual compatibility between two bodies, in return, with their planets here, we can enjoy ourselves and the other in the most physical sense, we feel our sexual physical needs fulfilled, here is the hedonistic part of the relationship. We respond to their desire by feeling appreciated and valued in this respect.

-house of physical sex; our physical sexual self

- this is where physical Eros lives

8th

- the house where we choose the long-term sexual partner, the one we feel completed with on all levels (emotional, transformational etc.). People aspecting this house make us want to seek a deep emotionally fulfilling sexual relationship with them, to explore sex and go in depth, beyond physical sensuality. We are touched in the deepest core of our desires and our emotions are very deep (in a Scorpionic way) with the ones touching this house, as opposed to pure physical attraction in our 2nd house. This house shows us which sexual partner we want to commit to.

- the house showing what kind of a long-term, committed sexual partner we are. As it is with all relationship houses, firstly they show what kind of partner WE are in that respect, and as a reflection, what kind of partner we seek.

- what kind of lover we are in an all-encompassing sense, when the physical merges with the emotional. What kind of lover we seek.

- it is the house where we SHARE sex and where sex becomes an all-encompassing experience, so people aspecting this house makes us want to go beyond physical pleasure and self-enjoyment, we transcend our own physical desires in this house and want to merge with another on equal terms, we may even become selfless and self-giving

- it is safe to say people with placements in this house awaken this desire in us, to see sex more than physical pleasure and a hedonistic affair of the body - with them. In return, people with placements here get to see this side of us, and they may be attracted by the promise of deep sexuality and eroticism with us, beyond the physical. I think people with placements here might find us alluring, sexy and mysterious at the same time, perceive our deep erotic side, beyond our physicality.

-house of emotional sex, our emotional sexual self

- this is where Eros as a transformation vehicle lives

Of course, this is the view on the houses pertaining only to the matter.

I seem to have loved you in numberless forms...

Not a bad description of houses 2nd and 8th:

The second house makes 8th house themes tangible. It’s the house where spirit becomes or turns into matter. Where the 8th house contains the “Janitor of the Universe”, the 2nd house contains the “Janitor of the Earth“. It’s where you can take your 11th house Aquarius (another fixed sign) dreams, shine them up, and manifest them. The second house is in your face, life on earth stuff. Money and Power. All-consuming physical expressions of sensuality. Your material possessions. The values that have become tradition and a solid part of what makes YOU.
Stuff about the 2nd House.

Ruled by Venus (Taurus, co-ruling Libra).
House Axis: 8 /2
Aspect / Planet – Sign: (Taurus) Venus Opposition Pluto (Scorpio) The JMAD Swap: Venus Scorpio / Pluto Taurus. Scorpio is also ruled by Mars. Scorpio is in Sextile with Virgo (the 6th house); therefore, these houses stimulate and piggy-back off of each other.
Everyone has 2nd house themes. This is the house of Your Stuff for Self or when house ownership is taken, it can be viewed as Your Stuff for Others.
Second House: From Me. 8th House: To Me from You.
House Themes: Money & Resources, Talents, Value, Self-esteem, Sensuality, Art & Beauty, Gardens, Possessions

2nd House Themes

House of Money & Resources: Money you make through your own efforts and ingenuity. Makes concrete whatever it touches. How your investments and stocks fair and the degree of stability. How you spend your money. The type of earning potential you have.

House of Talents: Talents that you have that can earn you a living or give you immense pleasure and fulfillment. Where we not only inspire ourselves but inspire others through our own talents. Libra connects well with Taurus (both ruled by Venus, 2nd house) here in that there’s a partnership or bouncing off in this house and a mirror reflection with a twist. It’s where one can look at the other, see a similarity and then create or be inspired to make something else out of it. To use their own talents that progresses your talent offered but in their own way. So it’s likely you’d never do or wouldn’t have done whatever they get inspired to achieve. Venus enchants, incites, and attracts others to your talents so others may see your talents before you do.

House of Value: What you value. What is worth it for you. The kind of value you place on things and people. What’s important to you. What are your values that you can turn into substance? As a Pisces NN in the 2nd, I have Virgo SN in the 8th. Some of my values are accuracy, knowledge, quality, communication (Virgo SN conjunct Mercury 8th) camaraderie, compassion, understanding, acceptance (2nd house Pisces NN) of self AND other. These values are spiritual at this point. Turning them into substance may look like this: I like to speak the truth or my truth as it were and I value others doing this too. I value speaking one’s truth. I like to hug people when they are in distress, if I think that’s appropriate. I value physical expression. I accept and understand different styles of dress. I value clothing and how it tells the story of our body, and physical presence. On the subject of food (4th house, Moon), the 2nd house is where you like to eat out — the type of restaurant that you enjoy. It also reflects the type of drink you enjoy and for what reason. It also relates to the culinary arts.

House of Self-esteem: Self esteem is often wrapped up in what you do to earn a living and what you own. Because of that, we find self-esteem in the 2nd house (as well as the 8th house, on a deeper and less superficial level).

House of Sensuality: This is the house where sex is a physical, and tangible experience. It’s where your sense of touch as well as sight, sound, smell, and taste come into the picture. How you want physical sex to play out. How you express your sensuality. Physical sexual experiences that are memorable. How you get in the mood for sex. The 8th house is related to spiritually and psychologically intense, higher mind, and intangible sex.

House of Art & Beauty: What type of beauty, art, or things you enjoy. A love of physical art: Performance, pottery, canvas, etc.. How you view old art. How do you want to appear? Do you wear a lot of make-up or none at all? Are you have a classic or futuristic look? What type of clothing makes you look your best? The Culinary Arts… Arts of any sense pleasure…

House of Gardens: Material growth. Your secret garden materialized. What you find beautiful and nurture or nourish. How your body, hair, face, etc ages. The outcome of cosmetic surgery.

House of Possessions: What you own. What you are known for owning. The types of things you BUY for pleasure and to earn a living. Stuff bought here can be used for hobbies in the 5th house and with enough intensity and obsession (8th house) turn into a career (1oth house) or make you infamous / famous for it. How you treat and view old furniture, antiques, and stuff. Are you a packrat (hoarder) or do you collect and then disseminate? Do you lose your stuff or do you have it very organized?

Blue Suede Shoes

Viva Elvis- Blue Suede Shoes

Lyrics:
Well, it’s one for the money
Two for the show
Three to get ready
Now go, cat, go

But don’t you
Step on my blue suede shoes
Well, you can do anything
But lay off of my blue suede shoes

Well, you can knock me down
Step in my face
Slander my name
All over the place

Well, do anything that you want to do, but uh-uh
Honey, lay off of my shoes
And don’t you
Step on my blue suede shoes
Well, you can do anything
But lay off of my blue suede shoes

Well, you can burn my house
Steal my car
Drink my liquor
From an old fruit jar

Do anything that you want to do
But uh-uh, honey, lay off of my shoes
And don’t you
Step on my blue suede shoes
Well, you can do anything
But lay off of my blue suede shoes

Well, it’s one for the money
Two for the show
Three to get ready
Now go, go, go

But don’t you
Step on my blue suede shoes
Well, you can do anything
But lay off of my blue suede shoes

Well, it’s blue, blue blue, suede shoes
Blue, blue, blue suede shoes
Yeah, blue, blue, blue suede shoes
Baby, blue, blue, blue suede shoes

Well, you can do anything
But lay off of my blue suede shoes

Facts about the 8th House.

I've wondered that, if the 12H VENUS is just so locked away back there it doesn't even register. All I know is I don't alter my behaviour in any way. I'm what-you-see-is-what-you-get. I've been known to occasionally apply a little of my pale lip gloss if I'm feeling 'feminine'. That's about it.

I suppose the means by which I express my 2H energy is through the 8H, but I'm never quite sure about that one. It suddenly clicked for me when I discovered it's the house of special karma and soulmate relationships. THAT was a home-run.

Otherwise, it's a curious place.

SUN-PLUTO-BML, APHRODITE-THISBE-URANIA, DEJANIRA, KARMA, CUPIDO, PANDORA-KARMA, SUN/MOON MP (6º SCO), EUTERPE, MEMORIA, KASTALIA, KLIO, FORTUNA, HESTIA, ATALANTE, ENDYMION, and ARTEMIS.

Pretty packed house (and I only count the odd asteroids if they're thematic, involved in luminary stellia, or aspecting by declination -- which they are).

Considering a lot of how I spend my time, it does make some sense. I help young women get back on track with their lives; I've mentored several abuse victims, teaching them to become re-empowered, find themselves again and improve self-esteem. NOT easy stuff. Many go on to have an appreciation for their beauty and self-worth which can't be stolen away the next time a man breaks their heart. My goal isn't a one-time, short-term deal -- it's to harness innate talents which are property of the owner possessing them. Period. The worst situations and depressive periods come from losing sight of oneself; becoming lost in others' ambitions and goals. Living a life that's not yours.

I guess I try to give people back to themselves -- through counselling, mentorship, art, and spiritual guidance.

SUN conjunct FORTUNA (0º)
SUN conjunct PLUTO/BML (2º)
SUN conjunct HESTIA (2º)
SUN conjunct ATALANTE (1º)
SUN conjunct ENDYMION (1º)
SUN conjunct KASTALIA (2º30)
SUN conjunct ARTEMIS (3º)

ARTEMIS-HESTIA conjunct PLUTO/BML (0º30)
APHRODITE-THISBE-URANIA (0º)

SUN parallel ALMA, (1H) BML, FORTUNA, APHRODITE, DEJANIRA and HESTIA.
MOON (3H) parallel KLIO and PANDORA.
