As I'm beginning to understand all of this I'm starting to realize I think my partner got the "better end of the deal" so to speak - in the way my planets aspect his vs. the way his aspect mine, if that makes sense? Does it work that way? Or is synastry meant to be a shared feeling?

It just seems like, at least from the synastry he would have a general overall better "feeling" about me than I would about him.

There are indeed synastries where one partner is favored, and in time this leads to frustration.

What are the placements you attribute to this?

I seem to have loved you in numberless forms...

Yes, I agree with this too.

This is where you usually hear one of the partners say "I thought things would get "better", but they never did. When I broke up with him/her they were shocked and couldn't understand why". You see the other person was hit in all the right ways in synastry, so they thought everything was great for both of them. Only to realize later that their partner wasn't feeling it like they were.

Perhaps a visual would be more helpful than me trying to explain it. I make a few nice contacts with his Venus, and I also engage him with my Mars quite a bit. From his end there is very heavy Pluto, and I've never experienced this before. Yet for some reason I feel so drawn to him when we are together, like magnets. It's when we are apart that all my insecurities pop up and I start over-analyzing. He is probably sitting pretty on his end! He is on the outside (red):
