So there appears to be a myth around Vertumnus and a female asteroid Pomona(32).I was digging because I have noticed oppositions or conjunctions to my Vertex in virtually every significant relationship I've had. I found this from Kim Falconer: As the myth goes, Vertumnus fell in love with a strikingly beautiful goddess (in some versions nymph) named Pomona. Although she rejected all suitors, he fed his passion with the sight of her by changing his form and passing her gardens daily as a soldier, a harvester, a fisherman, etc. Ignoring him, Pomona remained devoted only to the cultivation of fruit trees. Vertumnus persisted and one day he altered his form to that of an old woman, greeted her with a passionate kiss, and proceeded to enter her gardens. Vertumnus, (as the matron), talked to the goddess, attempting to convince her of the rewards of relationship and the dangers of rejecting love. The qualities and integrity of the youthful god Vertumnus were discussed. Finally, "she" told Pomona the story of a young man who cruelly took his own life after being spurned by his hard hearted love. He told of how the gods turned the rejecting woman into stone, but still Pomona was not persuaded. Finally in exasperation, Vertumnus dropped his disguise and stood naked before Pomona in his true form. She thought she was seeing the sun immerge from behind the clouds and in the glorious light of Vertumnus, she opened her heart and reciprocated his love. Together still, they attend the gardens and fruit tress of the countryside. So, maybe we could say that one person's Pomona contacting another's Vertex could be auspicious? Thoughts? IP: Logged |

I love this myth Here is another interesting thread on it, by Lotis http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum24/HTML/213721.html I don't have Pomona/Vertex direct aspects in synastry, just several Pomona/planets aspects, I do however have significant Vertex aspects in synastry and composite. In the synastry
my Sun (7th ruler) conjuncts his Avx my Mars conjuncts his Avx his Mercury (ASC and MC ruler) conjuncts my Avx his Saturn, Uranus and MC sextile my Vertex my Uranus quincunx his Vertex exact his Union conjuncts my Vertex ------------------ I seem to have loved you in numberless forms... Yeah, I have Pomona conjunct Venus as well... they are also conjunct Juno. What does that mean? Probably that I live behind a wall and won't open to somebody unless a Vertex-like person comes along. IP: Logged |

Not sure I`d use this as soulmate pairing. Comparing a calculated point with an asteroid in this way (as pairing) doesn`t feel right to me. Of course the Vertex is always a "manifestaion point" of its own.

Cerdiwen,I understand your reservation, however, I thought that the fact that the Vertex appears to be named after one half of a pair, may give it more versatility than other points? IP: Logged |

I understand your thinking and maybe it can be done this way. It`s just I wouldn´t do it, because we are dealing with very different things. Calculated points versus physical objects (asteroids in this instance). Also, Vertex simply means Zenith, and signifies the point JUST before the turn (around). Vertex and Vertumnus are just derived from the same word, "vertere", which means to "turn around". i love the myth though. Even more than the other soulmate myths. It is just so beautiful.
For me POMONA is on 8 Pisces, conjunct my pholus, Ceres, Ishtar, Horus and chartruler Jupiter and Melpomene, and squaring the ASC-stellium
Hilariously is it also conjunct my name in Mr Sag`s chart and his EROS exactly, opposing his Mars-Jupiter-AMOR conjunction from 9-11 Virgo and his name in his chart on 10 Virgo. lol his POMONA is on 16 Taurus, EXACTLY conjunct my name in MY chart. Which is freakingly hilarious. So Pomona is conjunct my name in both charts. I wonder what that means *whistling innocently*
It also sextiles my SAturn and squares my Moon exact and opposes his Valentine by 3 degrees. I am honest, I can identify with the Pomona-character quite a bit. More than I really like to Too bad there is no asteroid Vertumnus. or Vortumunus or something like that.

Yes, I love the myth too, it's powerful without being shocking. And so, is believable. Well, maybe apart from the shapeshifting (I wouldn't write that off though!) That's a lot of Pomona Ceridwen, you must ooze innocence! IP: Logged |

Yep, and I've got it with my Twin. My POMONA on his VX, 3°. Wide, but there, along with EVERYTHING else. Also, he has an EXACT natal conjunction of VX-POMONA. Too wide, but near my VENUS-ASC. IP: Logged |

I just recall stumbling upon it and thinking how it was almost typical. Don't have it in any of the other synastries of mine. I ought to check my parents'. IP: Logged |
