A friend of mine has Sun/Chiron opposite Saturn in his natal.
His lady friend has Moon/Chiron opposite Saturn in her natal.

His Sun/Chiron is on her SN & his Saturn is on her NN. (his Jupiter is on her SN too)
Her Moon/Chiron is on his SN & her Saturn is on his NN.

It just seems like a weird coincidence to me. Could it mean they were married or somehow connected in a past life and harmed each other, and this lifetime they need to learn how to deal with things responsibly and other Saturnian-type things together?

That's a karmic pattern involving the luminaries, CHIRON, and the NODES.

While the lights and CHIRON are almost interchangeable, SATURN conjunct NNODE seems the repeating pattern.

That does tend to signify a karmic relationship, where the dominant energy is settling karmic debt. Since her MOON/CHIRON=SNODE, and his SUN/CHIRON=SNODE, it's vital to understand the nature of CHIRON in each natal. Then you can see what each owes the other.

I'd start by evaluating the luminaries, and how CHIRON is represented in each chart.
