Hi everyone,i just woke up from a dream.

Well to be honest it was a dream within a dream that this event takes place.

The event where i find myself realizing that it might be that i'm in a dream(i keep hearing music in that dream-i left my music player on in real life) so i go outside, break into a run and soar above the skies.

But then suddenly i do realize it's a dream and then i wake up.Or at least i thought i woke up.In this dream i couldn't open my eyes at all,Had trouble opening my eyes.I finally open them halfway go to my computer, see something weird on the screen and i think that's weird, out of place.

And finally i'm jolted(literally) back into right now..ie real life.

It was so sureal.I still don't know if i'm dreaming or not.Had to pinch myself.

The part about not being able to open my eyes and wake up from the dream is scary.Has anyone experienced that before?

Thanks. If this is in the wrong place, please move it mods. Thanks

Aurora,

That's a hypnagogic OBE. You're more in a trance state than REM sleep. The being unable to open your eyes is the hypnagogic part, or commonly referred to as 'sleep paralysis'. Biochemically, your brain has regained consciousness (so to speak) before your muscles have regained their strength. That's why you think that you're struggling to reopen your eyes and move. Truthfully, you're still dreaming, though lucidly.

I regularly dream lucidly, but only tend to experience hypnagogia during stressful periods or if I'm attempting sleep earlier than my body is ready. The melatonin hasn't begun properly flowing quite yet, and your heart rate is 'day resting' rather than 'night' (resting heart rate). Then the terror induces adrenaline, and all manner of things can happen. I always get a crazy rushing noise in my ears as well as the feeling of free fall vertigo. A few times I've 'given into' it and had some wild experiences!

The medical community will say this is the beginning of a potential sleep disorder, likely apnea. I'm open minded enough to suggest you may be exploring OBE.

Either way, just breathe. You're safe either way.

Are you currently experiencing higher levels of anxiety, by chance?

Flying is terrific, by the way. I always fly in my lucid dreams where the feeling overtakes me. In terms of symbolism, it's very liberating. You're literally 'soaring' through life, light and carefree.

That explains perfectly what i went through. Why i couldn't open my eyes and how the whole thing still felt like reality until i woke up that is(with a jolt i might add).

And yes flying in a dream is awesome especially when you can control it.I suppose that counts as lucid dreaming(even if it was for like 5 minutes).

i have thought about exploring OBE before but i didn't because ,well i read that if you don't keep your frequency above fear, you have the potential of being drawn to the lower astral realm when you astral travel.

So i'm working on increasing my vibrations before i even attempt any form of OBE.

I'm not experiencing any stress right now(as far as i know of),but i did sleep earlier than when my body is ready.Took an afternoon nap actually. It's only 2pm past here.Could be that's what caused this sleep paralysis.

Thank you so much for your explaination Aubyanne.Makes so much sense.

i've flown before (once) but then i wasn't lucid. This time i was(partially.i suspected i was in a dream and so decided to try and see if i could fly).

I hope that is the case. That i'm soaring through life ,light and carefree

Anytime, Aurora.

And, yes, sleeping ahead of schedule -- especially napping, as it's unfamiliar to our circadian rhythms (unless we do so regularly) can throw the whole system for a loop.

Your blood sugar might be a tad low, too, after an adrenaline surge. Consider some beta carotene (carrot or carrot juice) and a little milk to keep your stomach alkaline. The bit of sugar helps smooth things over, and it's not enough to lead to a crash later. That way if you DO need to return to sleep, you can without incident. (I've become adept at navigating these things.)

I'll kick this over into a more appropriate forum now, if that's okay with you?
