For me, it's an active, conscious decision on an energetic level to go from 'you and I' to 'us' or 'we'. Whereas synastry is 'you and me' or more truthfully 'you versus me' (not in an adversarial, but comparative, way) the composite is the separate created entity as a result of our individual energies combining to become one. That one has a sort of natal chart which we call the composite.

So if you're just now starting to experience chemistry, you likely have some wide attraction patterns and aspects that took awhile to engage.

This is just my view. I prefer to be very aware of composite 'activation / deactivation' however. I could swear I've felt both the switching 'on' and the switching 'off' later. But who knows?
