I've been curious about planets and asteroids that are supposed to trigger obsession in some way, and the names that keep cropping up in this context are always the same - Pluto, Eros, Nessus, Priapus.

I know Nessus carries more negative connotations, but as far as obsessions go, are all these similar or do they generally trigger different 'kinds' of obsession? Are some aspects more negative than others, or can they all work positively in the right circumstances - even Nessus?

I also read that Eros needs to be aspected in the natal chart for its influence to be felt at all - is this correct, and does it apply to the other asteroids as well?

The aspects I'm curious of are as follows. All of these are either exact or within 2 degrees.

His Eros conjunct her Venus (exact)
His Eros square her Pluto (exact)
His Eros opposite her Nessus
His Eros trine her Ascendant
His Eros trine her Chiron

His Pluto square her Dejanira (exact)
His Priapus square her Dejanira (exact)
His Nessus square her Chiron
His Nessus square her Moon
His Nessus trine her Black Moon Lilith

Hi and welcome!

I think obsession potential should be traced in the natal first Look at Pluto, Scorpio, 8th house. Eros is an open, giving energy, not exactly on the obsessive side; more like addiction if it's really really good

Yes, when used constructively, NESSUS can transcend taboos and change deeply-held perspectives. DEJA can act like a spark to the fuse of NESSUS, beginning a powerful chain reaction.

I'd definitely say Pluto in your partner's 5th house or having a Venus-Pluto aspect. I just came out of that combination. One may say I'm still slightly obsessed with him, eek!

Interesting answers, thank you!

A couple of points:

1. If there *is* a potential for obsession in the natal, can anything trigger it, then? Is it unpredictable? In this case, he does have a heavy 8th house and lots of Scorpio/Pluto influence. She, on the other hand, does not. (8th house completely empty.)

2. Do these potential obsessions go both ways, or are they more likely to trigger the more Plutonian person?

Interestingly, there is a Venus-Pluto square (he being the Pluto), but I think it was at something like 4 degrees, so I don't know if it counts…?
