I am trying to figure out why I am attracted to certain partners and relationships. The natal chart suggests what one would look for/welcome romantically in synastry with synastry that reflects one’s natal, however I find the opposite to be true for me. Other posters would state that your natal plays a large part in what you want in a relationship/synastry. Every time I read about 5th,7th,& 8th house synastry, I scoff as I dislike 5th and 7th house contacts whether through house rulership connections/overlays (flowing or hard aspects) or even symbolism that reflects my 5th and 7th house.

Does anyone find that their natal does not speak to what they look for in relationships or partners?

I have Scorpio 5th house, and Aquarius in both 7th and 8th houses. I love Scorpios, but granted I have a Pisces stellium in my 8th house (house of Scorpio), so I'm not surprised of my attraction to Scorpios there.

I dated an Aquarius with a Scorpio moon once and he was the only guy I fell in love with. But I feel that Aquariuans are too detached for my Pisces style. I don't think I could ever date another one again. Although I do like their uniqueness and outgoing style!

My experience is similar. Natal Sagi Jupiter in 5H, cusp also Sagi. Cap Vertex in 5H. Married for 7 years to Sagi Sun--Venus in my 4H (nothing in my 5H). Not romantically attracted to Cap.

Natal Aqua Desc, with Pisces Juno in 7H. No romantic connection with Aqua or Pisces Sun. Although I do like brilliant intuitive strange Uranian types. My romantic fave Sun and Venus are in Leo (my rising sign and Leo stellium).

Empty 8H with Pisces cusp, ruled by Libra Neptune in 3H. Am attracted to Libra Moon (my Aries Sun) and Libra rising. My natal Venus strong and well aspected. Wonderful yearlong powerful intimate relationship with her Mercury conjunct my Venus, Taurus Sun (in my 10H), Leo Moon (in my stellium rising), Aqua rising (in my 7H).

I do feel my natal shows romantic attractions--but 5H, 7H, 8H do not tell the whole story.

I have dated many Pisces. My DSC is in Pisces but that's all my Natal will tell you. Looking at my Sidereal will tell you much more though!

Yes your natal will tell you what you are attracted to. What else could?
However, it is not always easy to decipher exactly what it is telling you.

While I personally have never seen the 5th/ 7th house fail, it also depends a LOT on the natal make up.

Let`s say you have the 5th house in Aquarius with Uranus in Sag, and 7th house with Neptune in Sag as well, and let`s imagine your Jupiter is either in your 7th or 5th house.

As you can see these are all dominated by outer planets.

What now if you have a Sun, Mercury, Venus in Virgo and Moon in Taurus and Mars in Cancer?

There will be a definite conflict there.

Bottom line is you have always to take into consideration what your general relationship planets are doing, how they are ingrated and so on.

Personally the 5th,7 th and 8th house overlay in my synastry does not do all that much to me either, but that is because of the way my natal is configured. With all that transpersonal energy in terms of personal planets (Sag, Cap, Aqua, Pisces), Gemini just kind of feels like such a different world to me, but in a detachment way, so they may put all their personal planets in my 7th house, and I still will not feel attracted, as they can deliver some of outer planetary energy)
