Not true for everyone. I'm a Capricorn Sun with lots of planets in Sag, and I LOVE fire trines to my personal planets. I also think some hard aspects are necessary to keep things dynamic. But that doesn't change the fact that I love certain trines and sextiles, especially to my Mercury/Asc conjunction in Sag, and my Venus in Sag.

My thoughts are that if someone doesn't match your 5th, 7th, or 8th house symbolism (all three of them to some extent) very well, then it increases the possibility that you'll 'friendzone' them. Same thing if someone doesn't aspect your 5th, 7th, or 8th houses rulers.

A lack of aspects between the gender planets can lead to the 'friendzoning' as well... Like Sun/Moon, Mars/Moon, Sun/Venus, and Venus/Mars. However, weirdly I've noticed that strong connections to the 5th, 7th, and 8th houses are actually what switches on physical attraction aspects in a romantic way. It's possible to have a Venus/Mars aspect with someone you'd never consider romantically, even if you think they're good looking. But the presence of strong 5th, 7th, or 8th house connections to your chart from a partner seems to be what 'flips the switch' from a platonic friendship to a romanatic attraction. It opens up the possibility that you'll be able to picture them in a romantic light.

So yeah, it's possible to be friendzoned by somebody you have a gender planet aspect with, if the relationship houses are not activated for that person. Either by you putting planets in those houses, aspecting the rulers of those houses, or by strongly matching the symbolism of those houses (for example, they have Jupiter in the 8th house and you have a Sagittarius Moon). The best attractions involve a partner influencing all 3 of those houses in one way or another.

You could also get friendzoned for the opposite reason. You have good 5th, 7th, and 8th house stuff going on with them but there could be a lack gender planet attraction aspects. In these cases there's not much for the 5th, 7th, and 8th houses to 'switch on' to a romantic context in the first place. You'll admire them and like them a lot, and not much else.

My basic formula for is: Gender planet aspects + 5th, 7th, and 8th house activation = Powerful attraction.

Both of my exes had venus in aries opposite my mars in libra. When we were both on the same page, it was great. But often times, our timing always seemed off.

My 5th in Capricorn: he has natally Sun square Saturn (1) and Saturn in his 1st house.
The ruler of my 5th conjuncts his Moon (8HR) by 4.

My 7th is in Pisces. He has Moon conjunct Neptune natally. My 7HR Neptune conjuncts his Moon (8HR) by 2.

My 8th is in Aries. His Mars is Aries in my 8th. My 8HR Mars sextiles his Venus (5HR) exact.

His 5th is in Taurus. I am highly Venusian, my Sun and Mercury conjunct my Venus in Libra and my Venus aspects most of my planets. His 5HR Venus - conjuncts my Moon EXACT, conjuncts my Jupiter by 3, sextiles my Mars (8HR) exact, sextiles my Venus EXACT, sextiles my Mercury exact, squares my Pluto by 2

His 7th is in Gemini. I am Mercurian also - my ASC is Virgo, my Mercury conjuncts my Sun and Venus and my Mars is in Gemini, in his 7th. His DSC also conjuncts my MC exact. His 7HR Mercury conjuncts my Sun by 4. Natally he has DSC conjunct Jupiter exact - it conjuncts my MC exact. I have Moon conjunct Jupiter in my chart.

His 8th - Cancer. I have Moon and Jupiter conjunct in Leo in his 8th (Leo is intercepted in his 8th. His 8HR Moon conjuncts my Neptune (7HR) by 2, conjuncts my Saturn (5HR) by 4, squares my Sun by 5, squares my Venus exact, squares my Mercury exact, quincunx my Moon by 1, quincunx my Mars (8HR) exact and sextiles my Pluto by 2.

We also have double whammies of attraction aspects like
# his Sun semisquares my Moon exact and my Sun squares his Moon by 5
# his Venus sextiles my Mars exact and his Mars opposes my Venus by 6

Hard venus/mars aspects is something that is definitely felt in my experience. But there have been times when there was nothing. Some things are deeper than planetary aspects alone. They are just influences. The persons natal chart may have them feeling things differently. Thats why its very subjective. Some love moon/mars aspects for instance, and others hate it. Houses and angles must also be taken into consideration since they are the BLUEPRINT of your life and the path you are on.
