If the composite is like the natal chart of a relationship and a Davison is like how the relationship plays out? I guess the charts of the individuals affect what the composite and Davison looks like. But that sometimes spells out a different picture than what synastry might suggest, no?

I know a guy. Okay, really, he's now only somebody that I used to know.

So.

We had this completely crazy kick-ass you'd-think-you-wish-you-had-it (save for dat CHIRON doe) composite, which, I think has almost virtually NEVER been felt -- in a decade. Maybe once for about three months, and when we were actively developing a series together.

All the rest of the time -- synastry.

If we could visualise everyone walking around as their natal charts, we'd see a constant symphony of aspects, being made and broken, as we come into proximity, and then wander away from one another.

A man walks down the street, soft in the middle, lookin' for a shot at redemption. His SUN makes a square to the VENUS of the lady in red, who's dancing with the owner of a lonely heart, whose MOON is quintile.

He continues down the street; the aspect is separating, as he passes the intersection -- separating, as he rounds the corner ... gone. The lady in red passes him -- applying, 2º ... now exact, 0º00. Then separating, as she passes the owner of the lonely heart once more -- quintile -- gets out of Billy Ocean's dreams, and into his car. Beep-beep -- gone.

Ephemeral. These lovely moments captured in time, celebrated or reviled, woven into the infinite now, but eventually lost in the grand scheme of time.

The owner of a lonely heart is in love with Ocean, and he loves her, too; like a transposition, their charts dance together and combine, becoming one. Natal SUN in 15º Scorpio and 18º Taurus become the composite SUN of 16º30', along the LEO / AQUARIUS axis. A product of two things that didn't exist before, and only exist so long as they pledge their love and devotion to one another, permeating each other's auric bodies, in silent agreement that they have now created something between them -- The Relationship -- an entity all its own.

Everyone rockin' down to Electric Avenue this fine evening in 1988 is an example of the fleeting nature of synastry; how it's made, how it's broken, and made again. A panoply of energies in conflict or union together -- but only for the duration of contact.

As Ocean continues on, he and his lady-love have something more than synastry, so long as they acknowledge the other's love; The Relationship in and of itself. It exists, separately, and yet with them, in tandem with synastry.

Should they decide their song is over, their synastry will remain, with memories of the composite. Their relationship that is now in the past, with all of its influences, promises failed and fulfilled, hopes and dreams.

Just my thoughts on the matter, of course.

I've not yet decided how the Davison functions. I know that it does, but it's not quite as visceral, or obvious as the other forms -- synastry and the composite. Though, we might say that the Davison is the 'time-anchored' composite -- as it represents a single date in time that reflects both tropical natals.

But that's still a theory in my experience -- and a mushy one, at that.

LOL. Thanks for such a detailed explanation, Aubyanne. I really appreciate that you took the time to do that! And very much enjoyed all the musical references
